LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris Thursday filed a suit against JPMorgan Chase & Co. alleging the bank engaged in unlawful debt-collecting practices.

The accuses Chase of engaging in “widespread, illegal robo-signing, among other unlawful practices, to commit debt-collection abuses against approximately 100,000 California credit card borrowers over at least a three-year period.”

The suit also alleges that from 2008 through 2011, the bank used unlawful shortcuts to obtain judgments against consumers.

“Chase abused the judicial process and engaged in serious misconduct against California credit card borrowers,” Attorney General Harris said in a statement. “This enforcement action seeks to hold Chase accountable for systematically using illegal tactics to flood California’s courts with specious lawsuits against consumers. My office will demand a permanent halt to these practices and redress for borrowers who have been harmed.”

The suit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Funny - In 2006 they got two judgements against me for two CC, and I thought them the wiser of the creditors. And I faithfully paid them over 6 years and in full last year. I paid what I owed. My conscience is clear. Their debt is satisfied.

It’s the moral way I was raised. I never thought for a moment that Chase was wrong for wanting their money.

If the bank is willing to make the profit on the credit card they should be willing to accept the risk.
