Charles Ramsey's turbulent 15 minutes of fame
AP ^ | 5/8/2013 | Charles Ramsey

Posted on 05/09/2013 7:59:36 PM PDT by MaryLou1

"Helping to free three women from nearly a decade in captivity would seem to be enough. Neighbor Charles Ramsey has also become a star, offering moments of levity in an unspeakably horrible story, free publicity for a restaurant chain and unexpected lessons in race relations.

Ramsey lived next door to where Ariel Castro is alleged to have kept the women in a makeshift prison until Monday afternoon.

Or let him tell it: "I got the day off from work, so naturally you're doing nothing."

Actually, he was "eating my McDonald's," a fact he trumpeted so frequently that the grateful food giant is trying to get in touch with him. A website that compiled some of Ramsey's television interviews kept count of how many times he mentioned McDonald's in each.

Ramsey's realization of what was happening on Monday was itself a revealing observation on race. Seeing a white girl in that situation was "a dead giveaway" that she was either homeless or had other problems, he said.

"When a little pretty white girl ran into a black man's arms, something was wrong," That sentence itself made Ramsey's interviewer uncomfortable. But the sound bite was also highlighted in a parody song and posted online. The phrases picked out for the song — like "we eat ribs with this dude" — also seemed to emphasize Ramsey's blackness.

Ramsey is the latest "hilarious black neighbor" to become an Internet celebrity, wrote Aisha Harris on the website Slate. "It's difficult to watch these videos and not sense their popularity has something to do with a persistent, if unconscious, desire to see black people perform," she wrote.

"I would like for him to be remembered, as he said, as a good man who did what anyone else would have done in that situation," she said."

I’m reminded of the guy who saved President Ford when that woman tried to shoot him. And then someone had to “out” him as a homosexual and we all got to read about it in the papers. The Media needs to learn that sometimes the less said, the better.

Yes but in many states domestic violence subjects (AKA abuse)are put on the same websites as sex abusers.

The dishwater media seeks to build people up “he’s a hero!” only to then turn around and trash them “he’s a former(?) abuser himself!!!” all in the span of 2 days.

Keep it up, pressitutes and no one will stick their neck out to do anything again. Too much chance of personal exposure.

It’s been enough to get some people to not run for higher office. Now even everday schlubs will keep in their place to avoid the wrath of snarky journalists (who went from ridiculing his dinner choice of McDonald’s and his racist worldview that a white girl would only call for him if she needed something).

Not everyone wants to be the next viral video joke.

F the media, we need to out the media... every single one of them.

I think it hysterical that nobody in this country has any curiosity about the washington media establishments links to one another... including politicians.

We need a reference list posted that we can review from time to time.

I'll say it again... this guy is right on time.

The past can't be changed, unless your a filthy dem, but he did a good deed and should be commended for it.

So they want to change the way Charles Ramsey interviews on TV because white people like watching the black guy “perform”?

Now THAT is racist. People of all colors are happy the girls were saved. Charles Ramsey is a colorful character (no pun intended) and people liked the way he spoke. It brought a little bit of levity into a horrible situation.

Who’s this author to say how he should act?

If we weren’t talking about him, it would be because we racists don’t like black people!

He did his time, and he apologized to those he wronged.

He is an interesting character. There is a bigger issue than race involved in the tearing down of this guy, who did do something heroic and did not ask or work to become a celebrity. Whatever happened to “diversity and tolerance” when we ridicule someone who looks different and speaks differently than ourselves? The left especially ripped this guy apart. They just _hate_ heroes, because the individual can’t possibly contribute anything individually according to their doctrine. It takes a village, you know. Like the gooberment po-po who were working the cases diligently for a total of 30 years...

"But.... haven't we seen this guy before?"

I was thinking the exact same thing when I first saw him.

desire to see black people perform

Yeah, that reporterette sure is trying to spin something and I won't say what. I'm sure 99% weren't the least bit uncomfortable with what Ramsey said. When he said that about knowing something was wrong when a little pretty white woman ran into his ares, I smiled. A huge smile. If nothing, it was endearing of him. Why can't the msm just report instead of spinning things and getting their panties in a bunch over nothing.

His conversation with the 911 dispatcher has some real classics. His reference to a tank-top shirt as a "wife-beater" was hilarious, and this bit of the transcript is unforgettable:

Dispatcher: Do you know the address next door that she said she was in?

Ramsey: Yes 2207, I’m looking at it.

Dispatcher: Okay I thought that was your address, that house.

Ramsey: No No, I’m smarter than that bro, I’m telling you where the crime was, not my house.

..........

And in response to a question from the dispatcher there's this great quote that should become a McDonald's promotional tagline if there is any justice in this world:

Ramsey: I don’t have a f***ing clue, bro, I just got out of McDonald’s.

Oh, I see. So you don't believe in any redemption. I wonder what you've done in your life that we can condemn you forever for. Have you never committed a sin? Have you never broken any law? I guess you consider yourself equal to Jesus - you've lived a perfect life?

It appears that he paid for his crime and has since lived a crime-free life. I once condemned my neighbor for having a prison record until I finally found out what he went to jail for. He beat the man who his ex-wife was married to for hitting his son with a 2 x 4. Would you condemn him too for having a criminal record? Was it legal for him to beat the guy? No, however, was it justified - absolutely YES! I have seen from some of your other posts how absolutely judgmental you are and I find you are certainly not the Christian you claim to be.

Matthew 7:1-5
Judge not, that you may not be judged,
2 For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 Any why seest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye; and seest not the beam that is in thy own eye?
4 Or how sayest thou to thy brother: Let me cast the mote out of thy eye; and behold a beam is in thy own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam in thy own eye, and then shalt thou see to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Ramsey said that any Reward should go to the Victims, not to him.

He obviously doesn’t have much money and I’ll bet a dollar to a donut that he orders of the $1.00 Menu at Micky D’s. I give him kudos for working for a living, unlike many others living in Obamaville.

What kind of law student was Barack Hussein?

Undoubtedly the best in history. And if you demand proof of that, you're racist....
