WATSONVILLE -- Dolores Huerta, an activist for social justice issues for more than 50 years, will provide a pre-recorded introduction for the 16th annual Queer Youth Leadership Awards that will be held Saturday at Pajaro Valley High School.
Organizers of the event, whose goal is to increase positive awareness of queer youth leadership, filmed Huerta's message of support earlier this week.
This year's program includes a community resource fair, a dinner, a dance and an awards ceremony for youth, allies and organizations that have made significant contributions to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning (LGBTIQ) youth in Santa Cruz County.
The event will also include the premiere of a video titled "It Gets Better." The public service announcement was filmed by Community TV of Santa Cruz County and features all five county supervisors voicing their support for the LGBTIQ youth in the community.
"The Board of Supervisors value lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth and we want to show our support for young people and let them know that the community supports them," said Supervisor John Leopold in a statement. "We want to tell LGBT youth that they are important members of our community and we want them to have great success in life."

Wonder what the county’s liability will be if some child predator utilizes this event to make contact. On the whole I wish the county supervisors would focus on fixing the pot holes in the local roads.
