Humblegunner is turning this supposedly reasonable complaint into something else entirely.
First, when one posts an excerpt, the link to the excerpt is opened in a different window, so no traffic is being “redicrected”.
Second, there are more sites for which excerpting is mandatory than appears on the list, which is badly in need of an update. My own favorite, A7, is among them.
Third, nobody forces anyone to click on a link or even read a post. It is a voluntary act.
Fourth, it is very easy to ascertain if someone is doing this for commercial purposes. The link posted would have to contain a signature in its html code, which would be different from the code one would see when opening the web site where the article appears and clicking on the article itself. Otherwise, how would the site know if the hit came from the alleged “pimp” so as to pay them their fraction of a penny in consideration of this piddling service.
Fifth, redirecting traffic to another site does not harm free republic. We all have multitasking browsers that can get us back to Free Republic, or any place else that we want. But insults and abuse do, and in fact are against the terms of service here. If the said insults and abuse were justified, I would understand it. But they are not, and humble dispenses them indiscriminately, without investing the few minutes it would take to compare the web site with the link posted for a signature. Myself, I am a big boy. I can ignore humble or occasionally cut him as I please. But he is doing nothing else here, and being appallingly sloppy with his accusations. Others do not have as thick an armor as I do, and so for their sake I want him gone.
Finally, there is something profoundly anti-capitalistic in this campaign of his. So what if someone makes a fraction of a penny if you click on a web site they post a link to. Another window will open, and you can view both freep and the web site. I do not know how to “pimp” a site. If I knew how, I’d do it. I like A7 and post what I read because I like to share it with others and hear what they have to say. That is my only motive. If I had a blog, I’d post its content in full, though.
The fact that Humble does nothing else here except fight this imaginary dragon suggests to me that he has a problem with money making, which makes him either a socialist or an anarchist. Whether or not this is so, he does have a problem contributing anything whatever of worth to this forum, and instead picks fights and deals in insults, and this spells out to me the word TROLL, and freep would be well rid of him. Since he has repeatedly attacked me, I do indeed fight back and call him as I see him.
Give it a rest, will ya?
