(CNN) -- Detectives on Saturday arrested the 12-year-old brother of Leila Fowler on a homicide charge in connection with his 8-year-old sister's death, Calaveras County, California, Sheriff Gary Kuntz said.
The brother -- who Kuntz did not name, but did speak publicly after his sister's death -- was arrested at 5:10 p.m. (8:10 p.m. ET) at a county sheriff's office substation in his hometown of Valley Springs, according to the sheriff.
"Citizens of Calaveras County can sleep a little better tonight," Kuntz said.
Leila Fowler and her brother were said to be alone on Saturday, April 27, in their family's northern California home when she was found dead. The 12-year-old told police that he'd seen an intruder leaving the home, then found his sister suffering from stab wounds.

I also added she said “they would not know right from wrong”.
It appears we are seeing more psychopathic behavior these days.
Psychopaths are not capable of feeling guilt, remorse or empathy for what they do.
They tend to be cunning, manipulative and know the difference between right and wrong but do no feel it has anything to do with them - IE they know the difference and do not care.
So my sister maybe right.
Pretty darned accurate and very scary. I think maybe those without souls could be developed from too much violent input. When pictures on a screen, whether movies, tv, video games, internet, etc depict killing and wounding every minute, the little ones' souls are murdered too.
Knowing right from wrong seems pretty much inborn, as a matter of what we once called "natural law." You just instinctively know/feel that killing and lying and cheating are wrong. Pixel law seems to override that.
I said from day one to look at the brother... the whole story just seemed way too unlikely.
Actually I didn’t even think of the brother.
My gut was some sick teens in the area doing something on a dare or to “prove” themselves.
Was this boy actually related or not? Couple posts say no related DNA was found, yet.
