A timeline of Internal Revenue Service activities that was developed by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration and provided to congressional staff indicates that early last year—as the nation was headed toward a presidential election—the IRS issued a “be on the lookout order” (BOLO) for officials in its “Determinations Unit” to ferret out for heightened scrutiny organizations applying for tax exempt status that were involved in educating Americans “on the Constitution and Bill of Rights.”
The inspector general’s timeline indicates that as early as March 2010 the IRS’ “Determinations Unit” had begun targeting for special scrutiny organizations that used in their tax-exempt applications the words “Tea Party” or “Patriots.” …

The Republicans didn’t ask for the apology that was given out of the blue freely by the IRS mostly as a response to the IG report which becomes public this week, thanks in no small part to Mark Levin’s Landmark Legal Foundation. He went around the IRS and filed a complaint with the Treasury Department IG Office. If they are willing to give up that info, what else is there in the low hanging fruit they are willing to give up to protect that which is much higher.
If I were an employee of the Cincinnati office and heard that on the news, I would have been taking a long coffee break to get in tough with my lawyer, or find one, and have him contact the House and Ways Committee chairman to invoke the whistle blower status. Cantor has already said they will be initiating hearings and from what I have read, two others, one of which is Judiciary.

If this is allowed to stand, precedent is established, and if Conservatives ever win back control of this government ... get ready big media ... get ready all liberal organizations ... What they may have done with the IRS is criminal, extortion for starters. They have to get from the IRS operatives a to the executive White House offices to lay a glove on the turd. Do I think they are involved in this matter at the IRS, I would say the probability is 60-40 at this point and that will be adjusted when we see who was directing this at the IRS which hopefully will be on wednesday. Right now they are playing checkers, one jump at a time. Hopefully they don't jump too far or the inquiry will fizzle. On the IRS matter, they need a special prosecutor pronto so those who carried out this crime can be immunized to move up the chain. Congress is not the place to do this as the inquiry would be obfuscated by the dems and shut out by the media.

At the Philadelphia Convention, Benjamin Franklin noted that, historically, the removal of “obnoxious” chief executives had been accomplished by assassination. Franklin suggested that a proceduralized mechanism for removal — impeachment — would be preferable.
IMO, this leak may be an admission to something smaller (and this is not small) before a much larger and more wide spread crime is uncovered.
I’m getting tired of the references to the IRS having done this or that. The IRS does not issue directives, PEOPLE DO!
Just like Benghazi and Fast & Furious, these directives originate from individuals who have the authority to give such orders. These people need to be publicly identified & FIRED - now, not a year from now.
Technically the IRS harassment and summary refusal and failure to follow proper procedure is a violation of due process rights of the applicant corporations/organizations.
Even more serious is the violation of applicants Civil Rights Act concerning Hate Crime, which is exactly what the IRS engaged in relation not only to conservatives but also in relation to jewish organizations based on racial descrimination.
IT IS HATE CRIME.
