Boston had the marathon going on. They had hundreds, if not thousands, of times as many pics and vids to sort through. I’ll give them a pass on not going through all of them very carefully fast enough to satisfy you.

FOR DAYS were heard of the surveillance video that "identified the 2 chief suspects" before it was released to the public. They knew who they were after. The authorities wanted to apprehend them without disclosing the identity of the "lone wolves" to the public. The authorities said that they only did so because "they needed the public's help" and were unable to do so on their own.
The perps knew who they were so it wasn't that it might tip them off.
The perps friends didn't know it was them (allegedly) but even once the pictures were released, they still refused to come forward and ID the suspects.
Therefore it was the public that was being shielded from the pictures.
