Tea party groups threaten to sue IRS

Tea party groups on Monday are threatening to sue the Internal Revenue Service after the agency admitted last week that it wrongly targeted conservative groups applying for nonprofit status.

“We are looking at it pretty seriously,” said Dan Backer, a lawyer who represents a half dozen conservative groups targeted by the IRS, including Combat Veterans Training Group and TheTeaParty.net. “Given the sheer scope of maleficence at the IRS, there may be a legal recourse.”

Backer said the IRS asked some of his clients for donor lists and extensive information from their Facebook pages.

The IRS said on Friday that it inappropriately subjected groups applying for nonprofit status to extra scrutiny if their applications included terms such as “tea party” or “patriot.”

Why has the Infernal Revenue Service jumped out front with this?
Why is the lsm reporting this?

My suspicion is running high. My first thought is that this is to get in front of (and distract from) something much worse.

Tea Party Groups Threaten To Sue IRS

Precisely what left-wing groups would be doing if the IRS admitted to intimidation tactics at the behest of a Republican administration.

I would only note the words of a freeper who's name has unfortunately escaped me:

"You don't threaten to sue, you sue. Then, you threaten not to withdraw the lawsuit."

Why don’t they hire Judicial Watch for all the good it will do.

The government has the courts doing their biding so it would be a waste of time.

Maybe one of the Tea Party members could look up what prompted the Founders to get upset enough with the government and see if we have reached that point yet. [hint, the point is long past]

I wish... and I know what that will get me...

that the _individuals_ making the decisions to do targeted harassment
would be personally, individually, civilly re$pon$ible for their decisions.

But, alas... it’ll be “the IRS” that gets sued, and even if they lose, it’s the taxpayer that’s on the hook, not the political hacks that did this.

Same here. Many of us are extremely suspicious of the timing in all of this.

The IRS is a sideshow to the Benghazi hearings which are a sideshow to the Immigration Bill snaking its way through the legislative branch.

Bamster’s problem is that the IRS sideshow’s blown up into something worse than what they expected, and Benghazi is getting legs as well.

I would bet that a reanimation of a gun control bill will come to fruition shortly, all under the cover of scandal.

All tolled, Rush is right (again). Obama is NEVER responsible for the negatives and always responsible for the positives. He’s literally a Teflon president.

Sue the IRS? Seriously, good luck with that.

Better yet, how about we elect representatives that will abolish wage slavery by repealing the 16th Amendment?

100 years of this effing feces is long enough... It’s not taking the nation in the right direction... and thus NOT providing for the “general Welfare” of “THE UNITED STATES”... theft under color of law it actually HARMING the “general Welfare”.

The IRS scam may have been run and back-pocketed for diversionary purposes in case something like Bengazi happened. It did and here we are.

The agency has maintained that although its actions were inappropriate, laws weren’t broken.

Any kind of government retaliation against an individual or private organization for that individual's expression of views on matters of public policy is a violation of that individual or organization's First Amendment right to freedom of speech!!!

Then, too, there are probably specific federal statutes forbidding the IRS from engaging in activities aimed at harming or intimidating private individuals or groups based on their political and public policy positions.

So what the IRS was doing and admitted to doing was a violation of both the Constitution - the supreme law of the land - and federal statutes. Of course, these Tea Party and "Patriot" groups, as well as any other groups treated in similar fashion by the IRS, have good cause to sue and should sue!!!
