The House Ways and Means Committee has scheduled a formal hearing Friday to probe the Internal Revenue Service for placing heavier scrutiny on conservative groups that applied for nonprofit status between 2010 and 2012. IRS Commissioner Steve Miller and Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George are expected to testify Friday morning during the hearing, which committee leaders said would examine the agency's "practice of targeting applicants for tax-exempt status based on political leanings." The IRS last week apologized for targeting groups that advocate for limited government by requiring them to fulfill onerous requirements before receiving tax-exempt status. A report from the inspector general detailing the agency's practices is expected to be published later this week. "News that the agency admits it targeted American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling," said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, a Michigan Republican, in a written statement. "The Committee on Ways and Means will get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.” President Barack Obama addressed the IRS' behavior during a brief press conference Monday, calling it, if true, "outrageous."

My guess is he will not testify and plead the fifth on advisement of counsel. a person who has a history of being clever usually knows when the jig is up and will go into a self preservation mode. He did his duty for the Administration as was required and now he will navigate the sharks through an elongated legal process. If any criminal sentencing results, he believes he will receive a get out of jail free card by ways of a presidential pardon. Little does he know that the president may soon find himself in political self-preservation mode too. Thus, the loyal minions may have to wait a couple of presidential elections before such a possibility can exist. Good luck with that, pal. You rolled the dice, you got to go to the cocktail parties, you chatted it up with the smooth “P”, and now you will be a footnote. So goes those with a lack of moral compass and the inability to recognize what doing the right thing is.

On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fired back on assertions by the IRS that its efforts to target conservative groups were relegated to low-level employees. “Of course not,” he told Breitbart News. McConnell noted that he had raised the issue of IRS targeting of conservatives in 2012, and further noted that the Washington Post “dismissed it as a bunch of red herrings.”
The scandal, McConnell said, extends up the chain. “The Obama effort to shut up opponents isn’t limited to the IRS,” he stated. “It applies to the FCC [Federal Communications Commission], SEC [Securities and Exchange Commission], FEC [Federal Elections Commission], HHS [Department of Health and Human Services] …. And you remember, the Obama campaign last year published a list of eight businessmen who it believed were enemies.”
McConnell further noted reports that the Department of Health and Human Services had been contacting businesses “skeptical about the implementation of Obamacare and asking them to contribute money to sell the program to the American people. That’s absolutely improper if not illegal. This administration will stop at nothing to get its way. It will do anything it can to silence its critics.”
