A single vote made the difference in a Lytle ISD school board election. Turns out, it was the only vote. The final tally: 1-0.
Going back to your old textbooks: your vote counts, Lytle ISD spokesperson Derrick Adams says. Your vote makes a difference.
The million dollar question around Lytle: who is the one person who voted? That person isnt talking but everyone else is, telling News 4 this is embarrassing for the town.
One by one.
In 1980 we had 779 votes, city secretary Josie Campa says.
Year by year.
Had 1,161 in 1981, Campa says.
Every last vote is tallied up in the city of Lytles records.
So it doesnt go into a black hole of history. Its got to get written down somewhere, reporter Emily Baucum asks.
Oh yeah, yeah, Campa responds.
And making history: one to nothing, the final tally to pick a school board member to represent, of all districts, number one.
You have to wonder why turnout was so bad. Some residents said, maybe because there were no city council or mayoral races on the ballot. Others said, maybe people didnt know what district they live in.
"People have gotten apathetic through the years, Campa says. At the same time, did the candidates get out there and campaign?"
Even in a small town, we couldnt find the winner Christina Mercado. But the loser, Patty Cortez, says she did campaign and now her supporters feel kind of sheepish.
"They texted and apologized for not voting because they thought I had it won, Cortez says. So they thought their vote wouldn't have counted. And here, we can clearly see that it would have counted."
Youre probably wondering why she didnt vote for herself. Well, she cant. For the record, neither could the winner because neither candidate lives in the district.
Meanwhile, the school district says a small-town version of a hanging chad looms over the results.
"There was one provisional vote placed in the early voting process, Adams says.
So yet again, the election hinges on the power of one persons vote.
That lone provisional ballot will be counted on Wednesday. We'll find out then if this race is a one-to-one tie or a two-to-zero overwhelming victory.
Hopefully, you don’t get just one reply. (-:
Lytle is where my home Masonic Lodge is
Good simple people that are just trying to get by in a very rural life.
But I can’t believe just one vote.
just another example of what happens if everyone decided to stay home. I want my vote to count so I make it happen as best as I can
Is this lytle, TX? I ask as I had a dear friend there who retired as a MSG in SF after 20 years. He spent 3 plus years straight in RVN with MACVSOG. He is dead, but; his wife is alive, and; I call her.
Should have run for mayor there cripple. :)
See why I complain about conservatives not bothering to vote in these things?
They just had the person that lost on the local news. Unfortunately, no one asked the relevant question:
So apparently moron, you didn’t even vote for yourself? As a matter of fact, it appears that you didn’t vote at all.
Does anyone wonder why our school systems have turned into cesspools? Anyone wonder how we can have teachers that perform acts so disgusting, that even posting the facts on Free Republic gets pulled? (yes, yesterday there was a post involving a female teacher and fido - that was quickly pulled.)
Every aspect of the public school system is a lost cause.
The article states:
“Youre probably wondering why she (the losing candidate) didnt vote for herself. Well, she cant. For the record, neither could the winner because neither candidate lives in the district.”

What took you so long? :^)
Yup....the dateline is San Antonio
Okay, she couldn’t vote for herself, but how embarrassing is it that not one friend or relative voted for you?
Our country will be won or lost at the local level.
Yes, and I agree with you but they stick the school board elections at odd times. I think that is deliberate so you have a low voter turn out.
Not as much as someone who posts without bothering to even read the excerpt.
