Dem Senator Mark Warner's note to Virginians, urging strong support of Homosexual marriage

Posted on 05/14/2013 5:59:11 AM PDT by Gopher Broke

I’m writing to ask for your help on an issue that has gotten a lot of attention recently: marriage equality.

Even though many states now recognize the rights of committed same-sex couples to marry, the federal government continues to discriminate. Same-sex couples are denied all sorts of legal rights – like access to their spouse’s insurance benefits and Social Security survivor benefits – because of an outdated law called DOMA.

That’s just wrong. All married couples should be entitled to the same legal rights – regardless of sexual orientation.

The Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments challenging the Constitutionality of DOMA, and I signed an amicus brief urging the Court to do the right thing and strike down this discriminatory law.

Can you make your voice heard before the Court issues its ruling? Please sign my petition and urge the Court to strike down DOMA so that committed same-sex couples get the same legal rights as anyone else.

When I was Governor, I implemented Virginia’s first executive order that explicitly banned discrimination against state employees because of sexual orientation.

And I’m a supporter of marriage equality because I think it’s time that we end the continued discrimination against committed same-sex couples across the country. I’m asking for your help to get the job done.

Will you add your name and tell the Supreme Court that committed same sex couples should have the same rights as anyone else?

Thanks for all that you do,

Mark Warner

Ann Holton Kaine will be overjoyed by the stance.

Cultural moral decay. Once you start defining deviancy down, it’s hard to stop that downward spiral. All things of virtue tend to cease being an absolute and the state then determines what is virtue and what is vice. America will never find its way back to true virtue.

Google is my friend:

“Only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions. This Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance, or effects of marriage. Nor shall this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions create or recognize another union, partnership, or other legal status to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage.”

Looks like it banned not only gay marriage, but also gay civil unions. It will require not only General Assembly action, but also first another constitutional amendment.

Same here. As far as passing handily, compared to where? All the southern states around VA passed theirs in the 75%+ ranges except NC, and NC still beat VA with 61% even though it was 6 years after VA’s 57%.

Do you think in the 7 years after the VA amendment, if another popular vote was held on the issue, is that 57% likely to go up or down? I mean CA passed prop. 22 in 2000 by 61%. So in 6 years VA was already 4% worse than the CA of 6 years before. Not a positive sign, in my opinion.

Is it just me, or is Mark Warner’s suggestion that citizens contact the justices of the Supreme Court, in order to put popular pressure on them, beyond disturbing??

OBEY GOD!
Those who support homosexuals are against our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ.
These anti Christ people only bring destruction on us ALL.
I have NO sympathy for homosexuals!

Homosexuality is a "Mark" of disobedience.
Someone once asked The answer is in the definition of "REPROBATE". And the reason"why" is given in the Bible.

God has a cure for homosexuals.

VA hasn’t had anyone in high office much good since William Scott, who called a press conference to deny a claim that he was then “the dumbest senator.”

America will never find its way back to true virtue.

The American people wouldn't recognize virtue if it struck them in the face, and then they would soundly repudiate it anyway.

Leviticus 18:22... You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

Good thing the Almighty doesn't 'progressively evolve'. Lets choose to stand with Abba and not fall with diablo. Eternal destinies are being chosen by all of us and the wicked are in for a very rude awakening. Very scary...

No, but she’s a standup Democrat lefty. And, she’s the daughter of Virginia’s First RINO, former Governor Linwood Holton.

Hard to say... the 2006 midterms drove out a lot of GOPers, including George Allen... it could easily be classified as a "wave" election. Yet the pro-tradititional marriage sentiment won out. Had that year not seen such momentum on the democrat side, the differential would've been much more, IMO. I think it would still eke out a victory, albeit smaller.

Warner and Kaine are the two most worthless POS senaturds this state has seen in recent memory. Both have their heads so far up Obama’s ass they use his nostrils for skylights.

Doing his assigned duty of diverting the sheeple's minds away from the issues that matter.
