UT judicial affairs director investigated for improper relationship with athletes (Shortened Title)

KNOXVILLE — Jenny Wright, the University of Tennessee student judicial affairs director fired Monday amid a probe into whether she had inappropriate relationships with student-athletes, was recently offered an adjunct professorship there, records show.

Wright, 32, had received glowing performance reviews and commendations during her five-year tenure in the judicial affairs office, according to her personnel file. The adjunct position, offered to her in March, would have earned Wright an additional $4,500 per course in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. She made $70,000 annually in her role as judicial affairs director, according to the university.

Wright was promoted to director by Vice Chancellor of Student Life Tim Rogers in August 2011.

Her most recent job evaluation by Rogers, covering the 2011 calendar year, gave her performance an average of 3.68 on a scale of 4, according to records. Rogers announced to his staff last week that he would be retiring, according to UT spokeswoman Margie Nichols.

This is bigger than it looks. As “student judicial affairs director”, if it could be shown that she intervened in any disciplinary actions in exchange for “action”, it could be a big blowup.

Well these days you have to ask: male or female student athletes? If male—all the athletes in question being adults—a suspension and warning would be enough punishment. It’s OK to date younger men, but she is a university authority figure and the young men are, albeit very indirectly, kind of subordinates.
If the athletes are female, we have the aggravating factors of depravity and unnatural behavior. She should go.
