Craigslist Auto Sale Ends With Man's Kidnapping
The Smoking Gun ^ | May 15, 2013

A Maine teenager who advertised his BMW for sale on Craigslist was forced into the vehicle’s trunk at gunpoint and taken on an eight-hour drive to Delaware by a man who masqueraded as a purchaser, The Smoking Gun has learned.

After posting his online ad last month, Alexander Filatov, 19, was contacted by Travis Landry, who said he was interested in buying the grey 2004 sedan. Landry, 29, directed Filatov to meet him at the Motel 6 in Portland where he was staying.

I've done it before. Always meet at a public place, preferably one that has security cameras and a guard on patrol. Walmart and Target are excellent. It's also a good idea to send a friend the listing and the meet-up location. Given that every internet posting has a home address permanently recorded and readily accessible by law enforcement, it's an easy matter to find out the other end of the transaction.

5secondsurvival, Tim Larkin’s company as advertised on Glenn Beck (which I purchased) explains how to defend yourself by immediately causing incapacitating injury either in the eye socket, the neck, or the groin. I’m 61 and never knew these techniques. This young Russian fellow could have used it right when the gun was shown, as he was very liable to be killed by this monster at some point. That gun-showing was the signal to go for the put-down.

Craigslist is increasingly becoming a potential “list” of crime victims, for anyone who wants to add his/her name.

I don’t know, I’m skeptical about some of those techniques, especially the mass marketed ones. Yes, those are prime targets to disable someone, but they are also areas of the body where you have the strongest instinctual reflexes to defend, because they are so vulnerable. Even before your brain realizes it’s in a fight, your reflexes cause your head to drop to protect the throat and make it harder to get at the eyes. The groin’s a pretty good target of opportunity though.

"Investigators tracked Landry to Killeen, Texas, where he stayed with a school teacher he had met online. The woman told cops that Landry was driving a grey BMW with Maine plates and carried a Glock handgun. Before leaving her home, Landry allegedly stole the woman’s debit card, iPad, camera, and vacuum cleaner. While in Killeen, Landry also reportedly reunited with his estranged wife."

Seems like the perp was quite the ladies' man. Though, driving a BMW does tend to help in that department.
