Congressman: Justice Dept. Wiretapped the House of Representative's Cloak Room
The Weekly Standard ^ | 5/16/2013 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 05/16/2013 3:47:13 AM PDT by Crazieman

California congressman David Nunes made the claim yesterday that the Justice Department wiretapped telephones in the House of Representative's Cloak Room, an exclusive part of the Capitol where members are able to privately interact with one another. Nunes made the claim on Hugh Hewitt's radio show.

"I don’t trust the Department of Justice on this," said Hewitt, referring to the subpoenas the Justice Department to obtain the Associated Press's phone records. "Do you, Congressman Nunes?"

"No, I absolutely do not, especially after this wiretapping incident, essentially, of the House of Representative. I don’t think people are focusing on the right thing when they talk about going after the AP reporters. The big problem that I see is that they actually tapped right where I’m sitting right now, the Cloak Room," Nunes respond.

Hewitt was surprised. "Wait a minute, this is news to me," he said.

"The Cloak Room in the House of Representatives," Nunes repeated.

Hewitt again expressed surprise. "I have no idea what you’re talking about," said the radio host.

"So when they went after the AP reporters, right? Went after all of their phone records, they went after the phone records, including right up here in the House Gallery, right up from where I’m sitting right now. So you have a real separation of powers issue that did this really rise to the level that you would have to get phone records that would, that would most likely include members of Congress, because as you know," Nunes claimed.

Hewitt responed by saying, "Wow."

“obama is done... it is just a matter of time... holder will go first.”

I don’t want them simply “gone”. I want them doing jail time-—or hung for treason.

If Hoover had come in and worked ten years and left....his legacy probably would have stayed intact. Instead, he became his own worst enemy in the end, with few people really trusting him or his vision ahead.

I tend to agree with you, though I think “confused” might not be the right term. Politicians DO like their face-time.

Saul Alinsky- Rules for Radicals:
The Radical may resort to the sword but when he does he is not filled with hatred against those individuals whom he attacks. He hates these individuals not as persons but as symbols representing ideas or interests which he believes to be inimical to the welfare of the people. (Alinsky 1946: 23)

“As corrupt as Holder’s JustUs Department is, I doubt they wiretapped the House cloakroom phones.”

I personally wouldn’t put anything past this corrupt administration would be willing to do to maintain control and power over ther perceivied “advasaries” and “enemies”.

They are Chicago thugs.

I recall one of Paul Harvey’s “Rest of the Story” tales that involved the senate dining room deciding one year to replace the tables with new ones. As they were removing them they discovered that the tables had miniature recording devices attached to the undersides.

I think this was during Gerald Ford’s time also. But it was never blown up into a HUGE controversy considering what had just happened to Nixon with Watergate and his resignation.

Why not you ask? From the type of electronic gear that was found it was determined that the devices were from... (Wait for it)... President Johnson’s term in office.

So it all depends on WHO is doing the snooping I suppose.

I bet Holder was hunting for Issa, but usual, Holder will have had nothing to do with it. Obama and Holder have nothing to do with anything.... They must be obsessive compulsive gay lovers since they have no time to do work, good or bad.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention President Johnson is the one who had the recording equipment installed in the Oval Office, the same recording equipment that led to Nixon’s downfall with the “Watergate tapes”.

How will DOJ prove that they didn’t wiretap the cloakroom?

The National Archives are *still* being emptied of documents exonerating Joe McCarthy. In some cases torn stubs are left, like the remnant of the letter that started McCarty off.

The US has hundreds of “citizens” that belong on death row for high treason.

——the Justice Department wiretapped telephones in the House of Representative’s Cloak Room——

Evidence? Where’s the evidence?

That is a very, very damning claim

I accept your thought as what actually happened. There were no taps in the cloakroom

I thought that was Hitlary’s line...She used it when Slick Willie was the pres and it had something to do with the death of Vince Foster (I could be wrong on the Foster issue)

Hoover was fighting a very real and very proven Communist threat, foreign and domestic. Terrorist attacks, bombs, the works - and he was FBI, not WH and not DOJ.

The intension of my comparison between Hoover and Holder is the wire taps of Congressmen.

Hoover had no problems in his mind of spying on congressman. He did not care if you were a congressman, senator or Secretary of State he had a file on you and would not hesitate to let you know he had the goods.

At the rate things are going, the corruption scandal that eventually engulfed William Magear "Boss" Tweed in the early 1870's is being repeated in the Obama Administration, but on a MUCH larger national scale.

All hell is breaking loose in the Justice Department right now to figure out how to cover their butts so they won't be sent to jail.
