UKIP leader Nigel Farage has been escorted away from demonstrators in a police riot van during a campaign trip in Edinburgh.
Mr Farage was heckled by protesters as he was promoting the UKIP candidate in a Scottish by-election.
As he was holding a news conference inside the Canons' Gait pub on the Royal Mile, just yards from the Scottish Parliament, he was surrounded by dozens of protesters shouting insults at him - some calling him "racist" and "scum".
Bar staff were forced to clear the pub and the protest spilled outside, obstructing Mr Farage's exit.
The UKIP leader attempted to make an escape by taxi but protesters blocked its path.
Police eventually escorted Mr Farage back into the pub and barricaded the doors against protesters.
He was finally removed from the scene in a police riot van.
Protester Max Crema, 21, an economics student and vice president of services at Edinburgh University Students Association, suggested UKIP has "a well-documented history of racism".
However, Mr Farage replied: "We are a non-racist, non-sectarian party and unlike every other party in British politics we actually forbid people who have been on extreme left or right-wing extremes from joining our party."
A UKIP spokesman said of Mr Farage: "I don't think he was shaken up by it. He was laughing, in fact.
"He is happy to debate his views with people who show common decency, and it's just a shame that people don't always show the same courtesy."
Mr Farage hopes to build on electoral gains in England and start winning in Scotland.
He was promoting his candidate Otto Inglis in the Aberdeen Donside by-election.

I’m sorry to say, expect more of this, there and here. Good on you though, Mr. Farage. It’s always refreshing to hear the truth actually openly spoken in various parliaments and congresses, and thugs like these remind us why it has been a rarity.

Unfortunately, people do believe there is no smoke without fire. The left has long realised that if you shout "racist", "Sexist", "homophobe" "" loud enough and long enough, it kind of becomes true, in the sense that everyone "knows" that is what someone is like. Its how urban legends come about.
