Strong men more likely to have right-wing views, study reveals

MEN with strong upper body strength are more likely to vote conservatively while physically weaker males have a greater tendency towards left-leaning views.

And stronger men are more likely to protect their resources while weaker males favour more socialist views such as wealth distribution, researchers claim.

Psychological scientists Michael Bang Petersen of Denmark’s Aarhus University, and Daniel Sznycer of the University of California, say political motivations may have evolutionary links to physical strength.

The scientists say men's upper body strength predicts and influences their political opinions and this link reflects psychological traits that evolved in response to our early ancestral environments and continue to influence behaviour today.

“MEN with strong upper body strength are more likely to vote conservatively while physically weaker males have a greater tendency towards left-leaning views.”

It’s not an absolute in all cases but it’s not surprising. Those who are stronger tend to be more independent and self-reliant while those who aren’t tend to be more drawn to the idea of a government/nanny state.

I can attest to the fact that some men with no upper body strength at all also vote conservative. Paraphrasing MLK, it’s not the strength of your body that matters. It’s the strength of your character.

Certainly - they are reporting a trend, not an absolute.

I wouldn’t say I’m that strong myself. Fit, but not particularly strong.

By the way, sometimes it’s the internal drive to be independent. I detest big government trying to have its way with me.

Don’t these idiot reporters know the difference between conservative and “right wing?”

Agreed. Life and human beings are more complicated than this. Intelligence and character are everything.

Un-PC version: wimps vote Dem/Marxist. Men vote conservative.

I’d be more un-PC but this is a family place.

I think a lot of women who'd fall into the category of "liberal" are just plain confused. Their gut tells them the value of manly men. Their politics, on the other hand, fight to force an equality that is imaginary.

Whether the ladies like it or not, there is an essential animal truth: men are the sole protectors of women. Live it, love it. We women in the West have come to enjoy the freedoms we do because men have protected and defended them. Sam Colt is the closet we can get to equality on that front.

Down deep, women know and love men, body build notwithstanding. It's a type as much as a build. Also if there's disciplined athletics at work, whether it's going to the gym or sports, that points to a disciplined mindset, more likely to go with the conservative type.
