Scientists: Climate change is real
Yahoo ^ | 5/16/13 | Chris Gayomali | The Week

Posted on 05/16/2013 6:37:08 PM PDT by NormsRevenge

An overwhelming 97 percent of climatologists endorse the idea of human-caused global warming.

As if the backing of NASA, 18 independent American scientific societies, and an intergovernmental panel established under the United Nations weren't enough to quell the protests popping up in comment sections across the Internet, a new study published in the journal Environmental Research Letters confirms — once again — that climatologists almost unanimously believe that climate change is directly related to human-made carbon emissions.

Researchers pored over nearly 12,000 peer-reviewed scientific papers from 1991 to 2011. These papers, according to Michael Todd at Pacific Standard, represented the work of 29,083 authors and 1,980 journals. The conclusion could hardly be stronger: 97 percent of scientists agree that anthropogenic, or human-caused, global warming exists.

...

"That suggests both a consensus, and an overwhelming one," adds Todd.

"The public perception of a scientific consensus on [anthropogenic global warming] is a necessary element in public support for climate policy," conclude the study's authors. And yet, according to Pew Internet Research (PDF), 57 percent of Americans are unaware that there is an overwhelming scientific consensus.

Yes, and they say “scientists” in the title. Quite comical, if it weren’t so tragicomical that is.

97% seems kind of high, but there it is. You can't argue with facts.

Of course Climate Change is real. That is the definition of climate (a dynamic system....)

What is in dispute are the cause and effects as well as the massive corruption in how science is being used.

Maybe there was the 97% because there was no funding for opposite results and the 3% are accidental or self funded.

One is not ALLOWED to be called a “climatologist” UNLESS one is for AGW.

Where does one study and get credentialed in this particular “science’ anyway?

Its so real that they have to change its name every couple years and constantly revise their doom and gloom scenarios.

Of course, climate change is real. Climate changes. That’s a natural process. The planet has been really cold and it has been really hot. It survives and life adapts.

But humans do not change it!

I just heard a radio show about that today. The way they got that 97% figure is they sent out 10,000 surveys to scientists and climatologists and they got back 77. 75 of the 77 believed that man is the cause. 2 disagreed. Yes climate change is real. It is the cause that is still unknown.

Climate change? Who knows? Man made? Sorry,no sale.Too much evidence...*scientific* evidence...of changes in climate that occurred while mankind was still hunting mastodons that were far more dramatic than anything that *might* be happening now. Also, there have been articles recently that have stated both that there's evidence that the sun has recently been putting out more energy than it historically does *and* that there's evidence that the other planets of our solar system have also been warming recently. Not many SUVs on Mercury I'm told.

And...anyone who's ever been to China recently (as I have) knows that the clearest day you'll possibly see there is far worse than the worst day you'll see in LA or London. And unlike London what you're seeing there is caused by 10,000 coal powered power plants and an equal number of factories that don't even make an *effort* to limit pollution.

Note this intriguing point at the bottom of the original article :

It’s worth noting that 97 percent of scientists contacted did not feel they had taken a position endorsing the primacy of anthropogenic climate change in their respective papers”

So the authors of the climate articles did not agree with the surveyed assessments.

Even if the climate is changing (and it always is), and even if humans are a contributing factor (and we likely are), this “consensus” doesn’t mean jack because none of them know how significant the human feedback term is (likely not so much) or the practical, on-the-ground effect of the climate change (likely not anywhere near as devastating as the alarmists would have you believe).

A candidate for a Ph.D. in chemistry joked (?) to me that "you want to research something that's cheap to do, so even if you don't have a big grant, you can make more money."

One of my favorite Milton Friedman quotes: "When you pay for research, you get research. When you pay for results, you get results."

An overwhelming 97 percent of climatologists endorse the idea of human-caused global warming.

The only time you get a 97 percent endorsement is when you are talking about votes for Joe Stalin or Saddam Hussein.

Doesn't happen without coercion or group-think.

All the way up to the early 1600's, scientists AND religious groups KNEW that the Earth was the center of our solar system.

How did that work out for them?!?! Hell, Galileo was tried by the inquisition, found guilty of heresy and spent the end of his life under house arrest for claiming that the sun was the center of our solar system. That is kinda like the PC police of today, who go after anyone who doesn't agree with their prescribed notions!

Here's an idea for climate policy: a global free market for energy. No subsidies, no quotas, no strangling regulations (such as drilling bans). As it is, our little planet seems to be getting a bit colder as of late, and it would be nice if we could use more of these evil fossil fuels to warm it back up a little.

Reading from the article:

66.4% of abstracts expressed no position on AGW,
32.6% endorsed AGW,
0.7% rejected AGW and
0.3% were uncertain about the cause of global warming

It’s a consensus alright: 32.6% endorse AGW.

The climate of the earth has not changed in over 16 years! I had heard this from several entities, so I thought I would just document it here. Since one cannot rely on US MSM I went to the UK. Ref: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2217286/Global-warming-stopped-16-years-ago-reveals-Met-Office-report-quietly-released—chart-prove-it.html (Just don’t rely on Brit Scientists who favor Global Warming, their emails were used to conspire in favor of GW.

BTW “Climate Change” is an alteration of Global Warming, so Al (The Idiot and College Crap out and C Science Student) GORE could keep his unearned Nobel prize and money. He loves money. Ask the saffron robed MONKS ... and Jan 02, 2013 · Al Jazeera announced a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore (another payoff?) ... and there was the 2006 masseuse who claimed Al wanted a “Happy Ending” but he didn’t get paid off (LOL).

Why Climate Change? So we can pay an unwarranted carbon tax to the UN for distribution to third world countries who render more pollution than the US which has reduced its emissions. Uncle Sucker to the rescue.
