Maps of hateful tweets shows hotspots are mostly in eastern parts of US
The Kansas City Star ^ | May 16, 2013 | Robert A. Cronkleton

Tweets containing hateful words are coming in larger proportions from people living in the eastern half of the United States, according to a new map that tracked hate speech on Twitter. “How much hate people are broadcasting online is a little shocking and upsetting,” said Monica Stephens, assistant professor of geography at Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif. The map is based on tweets that were scanned for hate words that are homophobic, racist or demeaning to people with disabilities.

LOL-You’re right. The young people are the biggest gossipers now.

I have no use for all the “social media”, either.

Heck, we remember party lines on the telephone.

Had forgotten about party lines, and if carefull could listen in. Sometimes you had more than 1 party on your line...could be as much as 3 if I remember correctly..

I remember the listening in part but I think party lines went out before I was too old. I was born in 1951.

I do remember some old crank phones.

This is another example of libs getting the results they want hby selecting the questions. was there any measure of anti-Christian tweets, anti-conservative tweets, anti-Republican tweets? Anti - Jewish tweets?

I was born in 1955. We had a party line up until the early 1970’s!

Well, that just lost my interest in the article, now that I now what they're labeling as "Hate Speech".

There's a lot of hate out there targeted at Christians, and the right, in general, and anyone who doesn't believe in the liberal way of thinking and who doesn't march lockstep (goosestep?) with all its beliefs.

The left loves to say how it has the youth vote. And the "twitterverse" is a bastion of that same constituency. If there's a lot of hate, mathematically speaking, it's easy to tell where most of it is coming from.

A lot of “self-selection” going on here. Like/Like. Any correlation with heavy voting for socialism is mere coincidence.

Looks like two generations of liberal (er, “progressive”) scolding about race has been a waste of time.

“Hate” terms like fag? Queer? Sodomite? Anally-obsessed perverts who play with feces?

Hey, Cronkleton, be sure to slap a few more numbers down for central Virginia...I can keep ‘em coming.

I started tweeting only to advertise my blog and webcomic. Coworkers found me, so I *had to* friend a couple of them. I rarely exchange tweets with anyone other than when there’s a new comic. I’ll sometimes respond to a direct question from someone, but I usually refer them to the blog where there’s more space for that.

I am a bit older, 1939 and using the telephone was a big deal to kids...but the best thing ever invented was indoor plumbing....LOL on my grandma’s farm, a chamber pot under the bed for nighttime, hand water pump in the “laundry” room. Yep, indoor plumbing is not appreciated enought...:O)
