Gallup: Americans' Attention to IRS, Benghazi Stories Below Average
Gallup ^ | 05/16/2013 | Frank Newport

Posted on 05/17/2013 11:35:37 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Slim majorities of Americans are very or somewhat closely following the situations involving the Internal Revenue Service (54%) and the congressional hearings on the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and its aftermath (53%) -- comparatively low based on historical measures of other news stories over the last two decades.

These results are based on a May 14-15 Gallup poll. Despite extensive news coverage of these stories in recent days, the level of attention being paid to each is below the average 60% of Americans who have closely followed more than 200 news stories Gallup has measured over the past several decades. Additionally, Americans appear to be paying almost exactly the same levels of attention to both stories, despite the relative newness of the IRS story during the time in which this survey was in the field.

Republicans More Tuned In

Republicans are much more likely to say they are following these news stories closely than are independents or in particular Democrats. There is a 21-percentage-point gap between Republicans and Democrats in terms of following the Benghazi story closely, and a 27-point gap on the IRS story.

Gallup: Americans are stupider than we ever imagined.

Obama was elected..twice..so yeah that statement is accurate..remember this sad fact..as long as the IRS Scandal and Benghazi have nothing to do with people’s food stamps and welfare checks arriving on time than they wont give a crap about this

“24/7 propaganda effort by the socialist run media/entertainment complex.”

The media is the vanguard of the enemy. This piece boasts of how well they do their jobs; hiding, obfuscating, and attacking those who would actually fight the embedded corruption.

Actually....African-Americans have been used and abused by Obama on many fronts.....but, sadly, most of them do not have a clue!!! Biggest mistake they ever made was getting behind Obama and his minions for the most open and obvious reasons!!!

Don’t care. Wrong is wrong, and wrong should pay when they are wrong. It’s only right.

Stupid voters aren’t paying attention. Oh well.

But avoiding PRISON is a great motivator.

There will be lots of motion as people try to arrange not to be the guy who goes to PRISON.

These scandals are rapidly growing in the publics eye. Just last week PEW RESEARCH polling indicated serious interest among Americans in the mid 40’s.

“Out of work, crap economy, defeated, socialized... numb.”

And don’t believe that anything will ever be done about any of it.

I have a friend who is a Republican/conservative.......but tv is her life, crap that I don’t even know exists let alone would watch. She thinks she ‘knows what is going on’ because she watches the news every night. She would fall into that 46% category. I would bet there are millions of others who would too. Not everyone is a political junkie, even though they should be. That is why the govt gets away with the crap they do.

This poll can't be true American Idol is at it's all time low.
This is more to do with forming public opinion of those who are I.Q. challenged.

RE: Just last week PEW RESEARCH polling indicated serious interest among Americans in the mid 40’s.

Well this Gallup poll is even better. 53 to 54% of Americans are actually taking interested in the IRS and Benghazi issues.

As for the other 46% to 47%... what to say -— there’s that 47% number again... the ones Romney gave up on and the ones who aren’t paying taxes.

Those Americans will always be an albatross on this nation’s neck.

The IRS story broke on Friday, 10 May. Friday stories are notorious for not getting much attention, and this one was not more than a brief acknowledgement that there was some truth to the claim that Tea Party groups had been marked for extra questioning.

This poll was then conducted the next week on Tuesday and Wednesday, after only a few days, including a weekend. For perspective, it was not until Wednesday evening that Obama got on the TV over the scandal. That means the attention that such an appearance might draw came after many of the poll respondents had already been contacted. That is not a lot of time for the story to spread, and still 54% were somewhat or very interested in following the story. That 54% was characterized by Gallup as “well below average” which they say is 60% for other stories over the last few decades. Nonsense spin.

Yet, after only those few days 74% said there should be more investigation of what happened.

This story can easily be expanded and extended.

Certainly not by the Marxists currently in power.

I can envision a revolution, however. Sarah Palin came close to delivering one but it still might require her male counterpart.
