The City of Philadelphia shut down a career fair for ex-offenders today after an unexpected crowd of thousands showed up, résumés in hand.

There were lots of disppointed job seekers and potential employers this morning.

The city was expecting about 1,000 people to show up, but about three times that number were standing in a line that wrapped around the Municipal Services Building, across from City Hall.

And when someone jumped the line, order collapsed.

There was no yelling, no shoving — just 3,000 people all trying to get into the job fair at once....

Too bad for them that Mr. Obama and his minions are about to legalize some 70+ million illegals, huh?

Yep. These are Americans willing to do the jobs that illegals are doing for an effectively lower, under the table rate that prices less desirable workers (like ex-cons) out of the job market. And yet, as long as Obama offers them life long Welfare, Food Stamp and disability benefits, they probably will still vote for him.

I’ve known several employers who took ex-convicts. The welders/construction workers didn’t have drivers licenses and had to be chauffeured everywhere. (DUI’s. Drug arrests. They had to be monitored because they’d get up on a steel building drunk or stoned.)

My buddy Jim put ex-cons to work in his hotel kitchen. Then, one day he asked an ex-con to empty the dishwasher and the con slammed his fist down Jim’s throat; busting out all Jim’s front teeth. Turns out the guy had “impulse control problems” which the social worker had not warned him about because they wanted him employed. That was the last employee he took.

Why would anybody take one of these losers when there are thousands of decent men and women in need of, and willing to, work? Sure, some of the ex-cons might be wonderful. But you’re taking a huge risk to find that one in 100.

Video at the link. You can’t see the ex cons very well though. It’s taken from far away, so their heads just look like tiny dots on top of the white T shirts they all seem to be wearing.

Which is why 3,000 of them showed-up.

Re: “You’re taking a huge risk to find that one in 100.”

You make a good point.

In the 1980’s I had two friends who worked with ex-cons.

One, fresh out of college, took a probation officer job.

The other, an assistant church minister whose marriage had broken up, moved into a “Halfway House” as a resident counselor.

Within a few months, independently, and without being prompted by me, they both expressed the exact same thought to me:

“They are sociopaths. They are all sociopaths.”

Or as Richard Pryor said, “Thank God We Got Penitentiaries.”

“They are sociopaths. They are all sociopaths.”

Heh. So they finally realized that there is such a thing as a bad boy.
