Fewer groups sought recognition as 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations that year than in 2009, according to the Treasury Department.
A number of people have sought to explain the IRS targeting of Tea Party, patriot, and 9/12 group applications -- as well as those from other conservative groups -- for "specialist team" treatment (mainly delays and excessive and inappropriate questions) in 2010 by pointing to the Citizens United decision that year allowing for unlimited, undisclosed fundraising by such groups. That's the explanation IRS official Lois Lerner gave a week ago when she first revealed that the agency had improperly handled a slew of applications -- the political shorthand was a mistaken attempt to deal with a surge in applications.
"[W]e saw a big increase in these kind of applications, many of which indicated that they were going to be involved in advocacy work," Lerner said.
But Todd Young, a Republican congressman from Indiana, pointed out at Friday's House Ways and Means Committee hearing with former acting IRS commissioner Steve Miller and Treasury Inspector General J. Russell George that this was not the case, according to the very data the IRS provided to the Treasury IG's office.

I’d like to see a list of all the 501c applicants from the last say 4 yrs, and compare them to a list of which ones got approved, and how fast they got approved, and what questions they were asked against a list of who got denied, and what questions they were asked....
Not one progressive group was refused... not one.
It’s because of sequestration!/s
The IRS just didn’t have the manpower to get around to the Liberal groups..
Yeah, THAT’s the ticket!!/s
...typical RAT media trick...HEADLINE opposite if story.
There’s always the “but”
We need a breakdown to see if ANY Lib Groups were slow-walked.
Does anyone remember when O asked for people to turn their neighbors and friends in to a website? Remember we all joked about turning others in
Would like to compare the groups with that list
It would also add some legal clout for lawsuits
There may have been a few but I think basically what happened was that Democratic and establishment GOP congresspeople got spooked by the results of the mid-terms and started using the IRS to silence potential electoral opposition.
Treat these I.R.S. bosses like they treat taxpayers who lie to the I.R.S. :)
That’s echoes what I have been saying. I want to see the underlying details and stats of what has been going on and how many liberal groups got the third degree if any.
“how long ... has this been going on ...”
Is Obamas IRS rapidly becoming a SELECTIVE Domestic Terrorist Organization against the Middle Class?
The site was called “AttackWatch.”

There was not a single progressive group refused... even obama’s half brother... a convicted criminal who had been collecting tax free donations for 2 years to build a madrassa and a home for a imam... under the bho foundation name... was granted his exemption in 30 days... retroactive back 2 years so there could be no crime. I have no doubt that some gop/e could have been involved but to date... only high ranking dims have had evidence entered against them... levin, schumer, reid, bacus etc.
New thread this am ties EPA into the practice. Just coincidence ?
Last night on OReilly a guest named VanderSloot tied his harassment to o campaign and a guy named Michael Wolf who website tied him into ....Senate .....or Senators
O Really told him to be prepared to testify before congress.
Reading from his notes he appeared ready and willing to do just that
