Tense moments in the early morning hours, as a woman carrying a gun confronts a man trying to get into her home.
The attempted home invasion happened on the 1900 block of Loxley near Upton, just before 5 a.m. Thursday.
It proved Betty Collins is a woman who stands her ground - with a gun in her hand.
"I said, 'Get on the ground.' and he got on his knees. I said, 'no, put your face in the dirt and you're gonna stay there.'," recounted Collins.
The past two mornings, she says, someone has stolen items from her car.
This morning, she says someone was trying to get into her house.
It started outside of the Stop N Go at Loxley and Upton.
Collins' boyfriend was riding his Harley to work at the Jeep plant when he spotted someone he described as 'suspicious,' so he called home to warn her.
Collins says wearing shoes and shorts - no shirt, and at 4:45 in the morning, he started heading toward her house, then started kicking the door, trying to get inside.
"I screamed as loud as I could, 'get off my porch. I have a gun. I will shoot you.' And he stayed at the door," explained Collins. "I'm like, 'Get off my porch. I have a gun. I will shoot you.' He didn't move, so I opened the door and there he was standing 5 inches from the barrel of a loaded .357."

That's a little too close for comfort. If it were Texas, that dude would probably have a big ol' hole in his belly and be toting around a colostomy bag for the rest of his life -- IF he managed to still be alive afterward.

yep stand back from the door and blow his azz off if he ignores your warning and breaks in.
Most good people are reluctant to take a life,even when justified.
You realize the criminal’s relatives can and will sue in civil court,the police will take the gun as evidence if there is a shot fired(and return it months or years later,if ever.
Depending on the local politics the homeowner may be charged with manslaughter to murder if the criminal dies.
Likely a whole lot less legal expense if the police come and take the burglar away.
But if the burglar breaks into the home and is then shot,the resident’s legal situation is much better in most states .
Not in Texas...
The shooter would be made a local hero for saving the state a lot of money...
Reread my post. Opening the door was dumb. Warning the intruder is smart. I do not wish to take anyone’s life but when they cross that door theshold it’s them or me. I choose me. When she opened the door if she had had to fire then she faces a different situation than perp in house. I’m glad it worked out for the best. As for law suits by criminal’s survivors I can handle that much better than being dead.

I emphatically agree opening the door was dumb.A lawyer could construe opening the door as an invitation to enter the home.
Ads certainly being alive to deal with lawyers is better than dead.
I just realize that except in very few cases,if any, is the home-owner or resident going to be able to shoot the intruder and not have expensive hassles as a result.
I understand but I have dealt with lawyers before and know several who would handle this type case free. I hope I never have to make the decision but I know what the decision would be.
I’m confused. It says it was her boyfriend. So her boyfriend is the one who was ripping her off? If he WAS her boyfriend, why would she have him at gunpoint when ostensibly he was checking on her after seeing something suspicious? Did she suspect him previous to the incident?
NO, my boyfriend alerted me to the suspicious character heading toward the house - we thought the suspicious character may possible be coming to the house to go through my car again. NEVER in a million years did I expect him to begin invading my home! Again, NO it was NOT my boyfriend! My boyfriend is the hero here!
