[Obama Stooge] Lew asks Congress for debt increase, says it’s 'not open to debate'
The Hill ^ | 5/17/13 | Peter Schroeder

Posted on 05/18/2013 12:07:17 PM PDT by SoFloFreeper

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice."

"We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate."

Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation's deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation's debt cap.

The Chinese stopped loaning us money several years ago; I had not heard they had started again.

I remember when Congress controlled the ‘purse’.

That was before we had presidents "smart" enough to use the IRS and FBI to blackmail Congressmen.

If it wasn’t “open to debate” Lew wouldn’t have to ask.

Cut all govt salaries, pensions and perks by 25%!!

Hey boss, I think the idiots that passed those laws should be forced to live under them as we do. Screw their pensions, make them depend on social security and 0 bummer care. I bet they will either fix 'em or repeal 'em.

Not up for debate?

Then it's not up for a vote, Mr. Lew.

I go back to Eisenhower so I've seen others do it, but never like this. I have also been so honored to carry an open umbrella for Carter.

Bad idea. Don’t ever try to tell blowhards that they can’t blowhard. In this case, the obvious choice is not to raise the debt limit, but to slash spending.

when this administration gets caught on their less than ethical activities the SOP is always; double down and deflect blame while simultaneously tripling the effort to win at whatever the issue. Lew's insistence is very likely just the beginning of what is to come, in that, this administration has decided to double down on a scandal wide basis. Now that's confidence!

I head read somewhere the other day that the Chinese were still financing our debt. I'll leave it to others reading this to clarify...

Why stop at 25%? Cut it by 50% and tell them to be happy with the job they can never be fired from.

They’re trying to turn us into North Korea. And it’s working. Those weren’t Americans that voted for this dick-tator. They wouldn’t know liberty if it was stamped on their foreheads.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
