Solar Flares NASA
This week has seen the most active solar flares in this sun cycle, which began in 2008 and will last until 2019.
Four high-strength flares occurred May 13 into May 14.
"Basically, this is as busy as the Sun has been in a 24-36 hour period since 2004," said AccuWeather.com Astronomer Mark Paquette.
Paquette used information researched by Daniel Vogler, co-director of the AccuWeather Astronomy Facebook page.
Using data dating back to 1992, Paquette found only one other instance with as much sunspot activity in such a short amount of time.
"Sunspot AR649, July 15-17, 2004, unleashed five X[-strength] flares," he said. "So what we are witnessing with sunspot AR1748 is pretty rare."
Solar flares are measured on a scale of intensity ranging from A, B, M, C to X. The X-strength flares, the level the recent solar activity has been categorized as, are the highest strength.
AccuWeather astronomer Hunter Outten said that these impressive flares have been responsible for disrupting a variety of satellite communications, even causing some blackouts that have lasted from nine to 25 minutes. Cell phones, radios and GPS devices can all be affected by solar flare radiation.
The flares earlier this week have not been Earth directed, so only fringe affects have been making their way to the planet. When a solar flare occurs, radiation effects can be felt on Earth in as little as an hour with disruptions to communication technology. Earth-directed flares can cause charged particles in the atmosphere that can create auroras 24 to 36 hours after the blast.
Outten said that as the Earth revolves around the Sun it could move into a

But remember: Solar flares can do all that, but they can't cause a spike in temperature or a warming cycle on earth. Because if we admit that, it blows our man-made global warming hypothesis all to heck. And good-bye, taxpayer grants.
Only my use of terrestrial radio will be affected. Cellphones and GPS? Not my problem.
As long as it brings some heat to Alaska, I don’t care!
Oh my Lord. How will people text? It’s the end of the world. /sar
Fantastic. So instead of winding up in Hoboken,as intended,I might wind up in Guadalajara.

The president has issued a fine for man causing this issue- to be paid to the IRS on your next form to the tune of $100-

Yes but look o nthe bright sidfe of htings, at least you’ll get to see lots of chihuawas (sp?) and eat lots of great spicy food whiel you wait for hte GPS to coem back online
Si.
You may also want to stay away from any drug cartel members.
LOL.
That explains the headaches I’ve been getting. Time to reline my hat with more tinfoil

I really need to spend the 10 minutes to figure out how to post images. The linked graph shows data going back into the last solar maximum. (These guys write with so much urgency, like this has NEVER happened before and we’re ALL going to DIE!!!!) But what I really got a kick out of was the spike that we are currently in, and then the forecasted smooth average continuing - but from the top of that spike!
Don’t forget to ground it!

I was doing some work at a site and this one middle-aged gal actually did have a tin foil hat on. I was working with electronic field instruments and she was all concerned from the energy I was probably giving off.
“Oh - it’s okay, it is all grounded. But your hat isn’t probably not doing much good without any ground wire. You need to attach a wire to it and then have it drag on the ground.”
She complained that she didn’t have any wire. So, I got some wire out, trimmed of the ends and attached one to her hat, she tucked it through her belt thingy on her skirt, and the other end dragging on the ground. She came by the next day and thanked me - she thought it was working much better!
Nonsense! The sun rotates once every 25 days, it's that rotation that will bring the sunspot into a position to direct the flare approximately toward the earth.
LOL!
Great Stuff.
Ear to Ear grinning..
My tinfoil lined hat will work much better now.
I never trusted the true tinfoil hat, only normal ones that are lined with it..............

I was about to remark that I don’t understand why we are having such cold miserable weather if the sun has been active with sunspots lately. I thought our climate was largely influenced by solar activity and I’ve been arguing with Libs to that effect for some time. Was I wrong?
the Earth revolves around the Sun
When did this happen? I just figured everything
in the universe revolved around Barak Obama.../s
