This is not the President Obama we voted for - Candidate Obama promised a different kind of...

You can argue that Republicans have blocked President Obama from doing just about anything. You can argue that he's had bad luck. You can argue that he isn't always the greatest orator. But you can't argue away that the Department of Justice took the unprecedented step of seizing phone records from the Associated Press. Or the flimsy rationale justifying drone attacks abroad and at home. Or the bizarre step the Pentagon has taken to expand the ability of the military to intervene in state and local matters. Or the fact that Guantanamo Bay is still open years after Obama vowed he would close it, and the US is making headlines for force feeding inmates.

These are actions that President Obama and his top team have taken on their own.

Yes, the various scandals have been politicized this week. That's the American we live in today, but even among Obama voters, there should be genuine disappointment. This not the President Obama we voted for, not even close.

I was in Washington DC the night that Barack Obama was elected president in...

--snip--

Don't get me wrong, we've seen cracks in Obama's idealism since he was sworn in as president. It is typified in the fact that prisoners – 166 of them – are still detained at Guantanamo Bay despite Obama's promises to close the prison swiftly after he took office.

But this week was one head-shaking moment too many for me, and it appears from the president's sinking approval rating that others – including some who gave Obama a real chance – are with me. As a registered Republican, I thought long and hard about whether to vote for Obama, but I crossed party lines, as did many of my young peers. I wanted a more transparent and accountable government...

The Mainstream Press saw to it that Obama’s true nature was not obvious to the Low Information Voter. Anyone who did their homework knew exactly what we were getting.

Well, he's paid the AP back for their gullibility - and I'm ever so sure he's paid other reporters and editors back too...

On the lighter brighter side, reporters don't have to worry about going to jail to protect a source anymore...

The usurper promised to fundamentally transform America. He dismissed those who cling to God and guns, and he implied that he would do his best to spread our wealth around against our will. The thug in our White House is exactly what anyone paying attention expected, except for the bonus that at least Obama is too lazy to do as much damage as he wanted to.

It was mostly young people marching – from varied backgrounds. Many of these parades ended up in front of the White House where chants of "goodbye Bush" (or some variation thereof) began. It was the same slogan heard as Barack Obama was sworn in as president in January 2009 and Bush flew away in a helicopter...

I take it Heather never saw the 'rent a mob' ads in Craig'sList that democrats ran to hire their young 'protesters'.

In 2007-2008, I decided to look into Obama and here is what I knew well before the 2008 election: I knew he had no experience. I knew he had used unethical tactics to win his State seat and then his US Senate seat. I knew he had listed both Rev Wright and Father M Pfleger as mentors on his mybarackobama.com page. I knew that most of his voting record was empty (mostly voting present) except when he voted three times against BAIPA. I knew his mother and his grandparents were sympathetic to Communists. Basically I knew a lot about him and tried to tell my (former) friends who were Leftists what he really was. I was rewarded with the racist epithet. They didn't want to know. We're are in heap big doo-doo now and many people still have scales over their eyes. I fear it is too late for our country.

I agree Guantanamo should be closed - right after the 166 prisoners are hanged.

Heather, to believe in 2008 that you were being served a Nutella sandwich, you had to ignore the container, the look and the smell. To order another one in 2012 you also had to ignore the taste of the previous one.

My Obama loving sister and her husband are looking green around the gills these days. I wonder how long until their statue of Obama disappears from their bookshelf.

“You can argue that Republicans have blocked President Obama from doing just about anything.”

Ummm. He had majorities in both houses, including for a while a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. He got through all his own party could stomach.

“I wanted a more transparent and accountable government... and I thought I’d get it by voting for a guy who sealed every personal record ever established, by voting “present “ on most controversial issues and who just seemed to have a problem proving where he was born. “

Excellent post!

Bless your heart, Heather: you’re right.

This is not the president we voted for, it’s the president YOU voted for.

And I’ll bet you argued with conservatives and called us names and behaved in general as if you knew best and we were crazy.

Even now you defend your vote by blaming the person you voted for instead of admitting that you made a mistake.

De Tocqueville was amazed the children 8 and 9 years old were quoting the constitution and understood it. They studied a catechism on the constitution. The people's minds were much better educated in memorization and logical thinking in those times.

We have lost so much. How can we hold on to our liberty when the people are so ignorant?

Heather is giving democrip voters/supporters/worshippers a way to cease their magic thinking regarding the half-black liar-in-chief. Her musings work to remove some of the copper shine off of that zinc penny in the white house.
