During a commencement address at Bowie State University on Friday, first lady Michelle Obama urged the graduates of the historically black university to "please stand up and reject the slander that says a black child with a book is trying to act white," instructing them to "be an example of excellence for the next generation."

If they are graduating from college you’d think they are probably willing to carry a book.
Actually that perception by blacks does hold them back, and should be discussed openly. To be derided by “classmates” for being literate is absurd, but that’s what goes on.

More speechifying and preaching by the blind to the blind. For this crowd its all about getting that gubbermint job. You could be teaching the yoofs, working in social services etc etc
Yup I’ve seen it myself with a black kid I was training for a much better paying job. He told me that he had to live in the same neighborhood with his antagonists and walked away from it.

Nope, that speech was not for the consumption of the graduates, it was for the consumption of the masses. Look to when Obama was running the first time and spouting lines like that in reference to black father, yadda, yadda, yadda. What did it do? It brought out some to speak openly as did Bill Cosby. He was subsequently excoriated and taken to the plantation shed and his tune has changed since.
They are using speeches like this to have whitey fawn over them because they perceive her as seeing the light. Why? Because they are in very deep kimshi with the Benghazi eruptions. Add to it their purposeful self inflicted wounds of the IRS and AP scandals also perpetrated to create a smoke screen for Benghazi.
Much as I don’t like the Mooch, she’s right about this one. There is a subculture that implies blacks who attempt to succeed in life are sucking up to Whitey. I don’t care who brings it up; this needs to be dragged into the open.
It is not about acting black or white, it is about acting like a NORMAL, RESPONSIBLE, CONTRIBUTING ADULT.

..typically point your finger tactic. The questions and answers will always been politically connected. Consider, why is it that blacks often criticize their successful and educated piers?. I can not think of another race that does this constantly.
Kudos to Michelle. The idea that a black man getting an education is “acting white” (meant pejoratively, of course) is racist and should not be in the philosophy of any decent black person.

The democrats created this situation when they created this separate and false “black culture”. Prior to that they were Americans and held to very similar values as most other Americans.
