Donna Brazile: We're pointing a gun at our democracy
CNN ^ | May 18, 2013 | Donna Brazile, Gore campaign manager

Posted on 05/20/2013 7:48:30 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Our democracy is endangered. Not by the Russians, North Korea, the Iran regime, or even terrorists. To quote Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he is us."

Inside the beltway, the fingers point and the media tuts and struts in glee, and we, the American public, respond by becoming more rigid and divided ourselves. No more "truth springing from argument amongst friends," as David Hume said. A recent nonpartisan Pew Research Poll finds our knee-jerk partisanship has increased dramatically.

This road we're on will lead us step-by-step to an extreme: either an autocratic government that functions, or a dysfunctional anarchy. The petty squabbles, bilge in the name of party or principle, will dissolve our self-government.

Abraham Lincoln felt no foreign power could ever defeat the United States. He said, "From whence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some trans-Atlantic military giant step the earth and crush us at a blow? Never...No, if destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men we will live forever or die by suicide."

We're pointing a pistol at our heads. A government of, by, and for the people requires that people talk to people, that we can agree to disagree but do so in civility. If we let the politicians and those who report dictate our discourse, then our course will be dictated.

Why am I alarmed? Because two "scandals" -- the IRS tax-exempt inquiries and the Department of Justice's tapping of reporters' phones -- have become lynch parties. And the congressional investigation of Benghazi may become a scandal in itself.

The IRS scandal has sparked bipartisan outrage that should require a bipartisan solution. The director who oversaw this was a Bush appointee who was confirmed by a Democratic Congress.....

Do we actually live in a democracy, Donna? I thought this was a republic.

Donna, I can sum up your argument just fine:

“How dare anyone question the authority of the government of the United States?” She said we have two alternatives as we go down this road: anarchy or authoritarianism. It’s pretty clear which one she picked.

This is what they have been aiming for all along. I think they just got a glimpse of what it will look like when it happens. I have no dobut the American people will come together when the time comes, it will be a war of the takers vs the makers and the makers will win.

When one looks at the left ... one sees ignorance on display with a desire to place those who disagree on a train.

The rise of the Alinskyites is what has polarized the country, Ms. Alinsky.

The purpose of Rules for Radicals is polarization, marginalization and extermination of those you disagree with.

I heard this am on am radio that 43% of Americans think the IRS targeting of conservative groups is all A-OK.

How is THAT for “civility”?

Hey, donna, your american idol, barrack hussein obama, has already turned it into an autocratic, race baiting government with chief us attorney backing him at every corner.

"A government of, by, and for the people requires that people talk to people, that we can agree to disagree but do so in civility."

I'm so done with that, Donna. All chance of talking ended when your boy issued his "I want you to get in their faces" directive back in 2008. You crossed the Rubicon long ago.

Not yet Donna, but we're working on it.

Evil people who wish to empower themselves by doing me harm have always been extremely “partisan.” They have always found a home in the Democrat party and they have always hated everyone who does not partake in their evil. Now these same people are becoming unmasked and are upset that the vitims of their evil have begun to hate them back.

Let's see what else Abe had to say in that speech.

It is to deny, what the history of the world tells us is true, to suppose that men of ambition and talents will not continue to spring up amongst us. And, when they do, they will as naturally seek the gratification of their ruling passion, as others have so done before them. The question then, is, can that gratification be found in supporting and maintaining an edifice that has been erected by others? Most certainly it cannot.... It thirsts and burns for distinction; and, if possible, it will have it, whether at the expense of emancipating slaves, or enslaving freemen.

The question is whether it is possible to seek "truth springing from argument amongst friends" when those friends are nothing of the kind, but people who openly proclaim their intention to "fundamentally change" America. Whether their doing so really constitutes "enslaving free men" can be debated, but if that is indeed their goal then they aren't really friends at all.

Back to Lincoln: Is it unreasonable then to expect, that some man possessed of the loftiest genius, coupled with ambition sufficient to push it to its utmost stretch, will at some time, spring up among us? And when such a one does, it will require the people to be united with each other, attached to the government and laws, and generally intelligent, to successfully frustrate his designs.

We're not dealing here, to be sure, with a Bonaparte, which seemed to be Lincoln's concern, but with a class or group that is convinced it is right and proper for them to tyrannize over the rest of us.

Yet the author of this piece believes we should treat them as friends equally seeking only the good of all. Abe thought the rest of us needed to band together to fight them, not pretend they aren't determined to destroy our system.

The IRS scandal should result in the repeal of the income tax, the dissolution of the IRS, and the abolition of government employee unions.

Well that is good news at least. It was hard for me to believe that so many Americans thought banana republic style utilization of the power of government to quash opposition was just fine.

Our democracy is endangered.

She’s right...with that one simple statement. We’re not a democracy. We’re a Constitutional Republic.

The Left keeps throwing the word democracy out there in hopes of convincing people, and I think they’ve done a decent job on this, that we’re a democracy...not a Republic.

Donna can BREAK this terrible (so-called) partisanship by calling for Obama’s resignation.

A lady called into Hannity last week and was all for it.
She stated that she considered the EXISTANCE of conservatives to be oppressive to her.

Even Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein says he doubts very much that Obama was involved

I'm sure he isn't.

He is the face of a parallel government. He is a cardboard cutout.

He doesn’t have to be involved.
His role is to make sure that this activity is not thwarted by the executive branch.
