Signaling that it intends to conduct an aggressive investigation into how the Internal Revenue Service targeted certain conservative-leaning groups, the Senate Finance Committee has asked the agencys outgoing acting commissioner to document any communications with top Obama administration officials about the unfolding scandal.
Sens. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah), who lead the Finance Committee, wrote to Steven T. Miller on Monday making 41 specific requests for information. They include documentation of all attempts to elicit information from groups seeking tax-exempt status; a list of all the words and phrases used to target applicants for additional scrutiny; how IRS officials discovered that employees were inappropriately targeting certain groups; and all internal communications between employees working to review the groups.
Additionally, the senators ask Miller for documents relating to communications between any and all IRS employees and any and all White House employees, including but not limited to, the President, regarding the targeting of organizations seeking tax exempt status. The senators also want to see any written communication, memos, policy drafts, or other documents related to the IRSs consideration of tax-exempt status since 2009.
These actions by the IRS appear to be a clear breach of the publics trust, the senators wrote in their letter to Miller. Targeting groups based on their political views is not only inappropriate but it is also intolerable.

It may have been incorrect but Fox News Radio reported that she did meet with obama... said White House records backed it up... heard it on the radio when driving home.
According to the WH records, Obama was the “visitee” when she came to the WH on 3/31/10, but he was also the “visitee” for all 116 other attendees at the “Workplace Flexibility Forum.”
Whatever happened may come out in testimony.
>> BS. Having higher standards than the other team yadda yadda bla bla bla
We’re at WAR for the soul of America. Cricket rules do not apply.
You, therefore, have outed yourself as an aisle crossing (cross-dressing?) liberal sympathizer.
... is that you, Lindsay?
>> not jumping on every story that makes Obama look bad
The problem, trollface, is that you jump on EVERY story that makes Obama look bad — and try to tamp it down.
In other words, you loves you some obama.
Is that you, Jay Carney?
I don’t try to “tamp down” every story that makes 0bama look bad. Please point out where I’ve said anything to “tamp down” Benghazi, the AP (and now Fox News) surveillance, or the IRS issue (other than this supposed 3/31/10 meeting). Those are huge scandals that, in any just society, would cause very senior people, up to and including 0bama, to resign in disgrace or be booted from office.
But, that doesn’t mean that I automatically believe (or should believe) any anti-0bama story I read. I’m a “trust but verify” sort by nature, and I like to do some of my own research before jumping on a story. If my research leads me to conclude that the story is overreaching in some way (like here, where I looked at the visitor log and saw the 116 other attendees at the conference), then I will say so.
The GUBERMINT has been lying to you for decades and your attitude of prove it beyond any doubt just makes it easier for them to do it. The only thing different here is that Hussein Obama has taken the lying to the next level, and you still don’t believe the clown is lying.
