New MSNBC theory: Maybe the IRS commissioner appointed by Bush targeted tea partiers ...

Fun from MSNBC’s early afternoon “news” bloc of programming via Noah Rothman. The logic is ironclad and inexorable: Doug Shulman, appointed IRS commissioner by Bush in March 2008, was so fiercely loyal to his Beltway Republican masters that he decided to risk his career to kneecap conservative insurgents’ nonprofits in 2010 … even though Bush had left office more than a year before and the GOP establishment he represented was widely loathed by pretty much everyone in America. Oh, and even though (again per Rothman) Shulman himself has donated to the DNC in the past. Say it with me, guys: This. Is. A. Republican. Scandal.

In the same spirit of half-assed spitballing/“news,” how’s this for an alternate theory: Shulman tacitly approved of the tea-party targeting because he was eager to prove himself a loyal soldier to a new Democratic administration that might have been suspicious of his Bush pedigree. After hearing tea partiers impugned a thousand times by Dem officials and liberal media outlets — none more so than MSNBC — maybe he got it in his head that singling out these right-wing would-be domestic terrorists was the patriotic (and career-furthering) thing to do. Slightly more plausible, yes? As theories go, I’d say it’s 51-percent-assed. Soon we’ll get to hear Shulman’s side of it when he’s inevitably subpoenaed by Darrell Issa’s committee. And, almost as inevitably, his testimony won’t be carried live by MSNBC.

Update: How embarrassing is this? Dude:

.@thomasaroberts you really said @msnbc Bush appointed IRS commish may have targeted tea party groups because they made GOP look bad?

.@simontemplarpvYes he did. It’s absurd. Frustrating to see @msnbc go from “the place for politics” to a place for utter ignorance.

And actually, it doesn’t matter WHO appointed WHO - out of control government is the issue, and Obama and the Dems are certainly charging down that road fast and furious.....

Well, if it Bush who did it, it would be bad. But, if Obama did, it would be good. So, we better find out who did it, because then we’ll know whether using the IRS to attack political enemies is a good thing or a bad thing.

Actually I could 100% believe the RINO side of the Republican Party would be THRILLED to have the IRS targeting tea partiers. McCain and Grahamnesty would throw a party. It would likely save Boehner from getting primaried.

The democrats in the senate hearing today are trying to make it all about the tea party. That and the lack of money means the IRS is unable to properly train employees.

Exactly right — even if every IRS employee were a Republican, and the IRS Commissioner was appointed by a Republican, it would still be cause for shutting down the IRS and abolishing the 16th amendment.

As this writer points out, Shulman has donated to the DNC in the past.

Is he working for the RINOs? Maybe it was not a deliberate plan, but he’s certainly guilty of acting pretty much like Karl Rove.

Another way of seeing it is that he was a Bush appointee, but he was apparently a leftie and possibly a Democrat in drag. Bush had a bad habit of appointing liberals to key posts. He did it all the time, maybe partly on orders from the RNC and partly to make it easier to get his appointees confirmed by a Democrat Senate—or even to get them past Democrat obstruction when the Republicans had a majority.

In other words, this guy was an establishment RINO. He didn’t need to be fed instructions after Obama and Holder came into office. He was happy to work with them, because he was that kind of guy.

And, sadly, Bush appointed him.

Then after going against the Tea Party, the GOP started to target Billy Gramham? Religious Groups? Jews who love Israel? Then they fast tracked Obama—favored groups? This dog will not Hunt! Its a rather poor play by the left. If I was a betting man I would say that the whole idea was Obama’s and he oversaw it on a weekly basis.

I knew that when Obama took now questions after making his statement on the IRS last night that MSNBC would be test-driving theories all day today in advance of tonight’s press presidential conference.

Sure enough comes this weak-stuff...

Be it a progressive Liberal Republican or a Progressive Liberal Democrat who appointed this Anti-Tea Party Loony...

It is not a Democrat or Republican problem and I lay the Blame at our “Current” Progressive Liberal President!
