Could be looking at a different sort of beast today:

A possible derecho like the one that hit Virginia and the DC area last summer.

The Weather Channel has issued an alert for Central Texas, west of I35 and south to the border:

“EXTREMELY UNSTABLE AIRMASS POISED TO ERUPT IN SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS BY LATE AFTERNOON THROUGH THIS EVENING.”

Thanks! This was the answer I was looking for; I was able to look it up from your info and now I understand the situation. My dad was stationed at Barksdale, and my husband is from the Arklatex area so I understood Arklatex. AND I understood something bad was brewing (the beast!), I just didn't get what the beast was.

Praying. And watching.

Heightened concern exists along and north of a Burnet to Austin to Giddings line this evening... where the most unstable conditions will reside. This area will be most at risk for very large hail and
isolated tornadoes.

Significant tornadoes are looking less and less likely.

A Derecho, while bad, dropping a lot of trees and powerlines, and covering much more area than even a large tornado outbreak, is far less likely to kill people or completely destroy buildings.

This morning it looked like it could be as bad or worse than yesterday, and SPC had about the same risk level. Yet another argument against “school should be canceled if there’s storm risk!” nonsense.

Kinda in a spot. My daughter got us 7p concert tickets tonight at the new 360 Ampitheater which appears to be wholly outdoors.

Mothers’ Day present, and while I avoid large falling ice rocks generally... of course my gut tells us we’re going to get hammered but you know how Lucy is always yanking our forecasted weather away from us. Dave hasn’t cancelled the show yet.
