Protesters in Cincinnati Denounce IRS

By Dionne Searcey

CINCINNATI—About 300 people gathered Tuesday for a short, angry rally outside the federal building here that houses the unit of the IRS embroiled in a scandal over workers improperly scrutinizing the charity applications of politically conservative groups.

Holding signs that said “Internal Rigging Service” and “Tyranny” and shouting chants of “You work for us!” and “IRS! KGB!” the group included many members of the local Tea Party organization who demanded punishment for those who were involved.

“Heads have to roll here,” said one protester, Kevin Tinsley, who works in advertising sales and said everyone from President Barack Obama down to the lowest level workers in the IRS determinations unit must be held accountable for the targeting of tea party groups.

“The IRS thing, it’s not America, and we’re sick of it,” Mr. Tinsley said before letting loose with a string of swear words.

Mr. Tinsley and many others had come to the protest over their lunch breaks and were greeted with honking horns from a few supporting motorists passing by. They marched about a block from a downtown plaza to the stoop of the federal building where they sang patriotic songs and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Many IRS workers had decided to work from home in anticipation of the rally, according to a former IRS employee who had been in touch with old colleagues.

Time to confront the media. Particularly those publications and websites who used material furnished by the IRS to ProPublica. Button hole not only those reporters but their editors and management.

I see a trend, a government without offices, one you cannot find or address except from a computer, if you are so allowed.

I hope they do this again and again until we get some results; especially a special prosecutor. Next time the protestors should wear Nixon and 0bama masks.

One protester wearing a red shirt covered in American flags and a hat that said “Cincinnati Tea Party” said it would take “lone wolves” engaging in radical acts such as sending envelopes with white powder to members of Congress to get the nation to demand a stop to the kinds of situations that occurred at the Cincinnati branch of the IRS.

“That’s the type of thing that’s going to have to occur. How else are you going to get their attention,” said the man, who refused to give his name but said he lived in Cincinnati. “If it doesn’t become aggressive and threaten people it’s not going to mean anything.”

This guy sounds like a plant. So when white powder shows up in the mail, they can blame the tea party.

I see a trend, a government without offices, one you cannot find or address

They started working on that just after Oklahoma City. I had a family member working in a Federal Building at the time and they were all extremely apprehensive. Eventually her office was moved to a nondescript building out in the suburbs. Somebody figured out that providing a one-stop shopping location for PO-ed protestors and/or terrorists was probably not a good idea.
