Rand Paul: My colleagues just voted to arm the allies of al Qaeda

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) blasted members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Tuesday, which voted overwhelmingly to arm elements of the Syrian opposition in a bill co-sponsored by Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN). "This is an important moment," Paul said, addressing his Senate colleagues. "You will be funding, today, the allies of al Qaeda. It's an irony you cannot overcome."

The legislation, which would authorize the shipment of arms and military training to rebels "that have gone through a thorough vetting process," passed in a bipartisan 15-3 vote. Paul offered an amendment that would strike the bill's weapons provision, but it was rejected along with another Paul amendment ruling out the authorization of the use of military force in Syria. (Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy was the only senator to join Paul in support of the weapons amendment.)

Why is so difficult to understand that Muslims killing Muslims is good?

If we wanted to arm secularist, or at the very least non-salafi opposition to Assad, that moment passed months ago.

The Free Syrian Army is being cannibalized by the Al-Nursa Front, who’s doing the heavy lifting now.

The civil war is a quagmire that we didn’t start, why jump right into the middle of it?

Is it Rand’s turn to play “principled conservative hero” again this week?

Why is it so hard for folks to figure out that arming Moslems to murder Alawites and Christians in Syria ~ is not a good idea.

They aren't going to be killing anybody they think of as a Moslem.

You got that right. They were killing each other with great abandonment when I was a kid. Why did we have to get involved? They might all be dead by now.

>> rebels “that have gone through a thorough vetting process,”

wait a minute... you say not just ANY old Al Queda jihadi can have these missiles? The Obama administration will be *vetting* the recipients?

That changes everything! NOW I’m comfortable with the idea, because I have Confidence In My FedGov.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee just gave Obama and Hillary a get out of jail free pass for doing the same thing illegally via Benghazi (”What difference does it make...?!”).

Wonder how many of those arms are going to end up in Ashcanistan and used against our men.

Vetting by John F. Kerrey? What a travesty. More American money spent to back one group of throat cutters against another group of throat cutters, all of whom whould prefer to be cutting our throats.

Rand Paul Bump.

And when they get tired of killing each other, they’ll turn their US freebie weapons on us.

Incidentally, Pam Geller reproduces from Pajamas Media that Ambassador Stevens was in Benghazi to coordinate with the Turkish official to buy back stinger missiles from al Qaeda in Libya. It appears Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, gave stingers to the Al Qaedian fellows who overthrew Qaddafy. Hillary sent Ambassador Stevens to buy them back from the Al Qaeda group as she might have been afraid of the embarrassment that such a revelation would cause if it was made public.

No wonder the Obama administration didn't help Ambassador Stevens. They wanted his lips sealed so this scandal would not come to light.
