Technology can often drastically improve our lives, but it can also sometimes bring about severe, long-term disruptions in our overall social, economic, and moral landscape.
Science came up with the birth control pill decades ago. It was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for wide availability in 1960. Gradually, it became increasingly legalized and used throughout the U.S. Eventually, millions of women in our country would use it, and millions still do. Additionally, newer forms of chemical contraception such as injections, and patches applied to the skin, have been introduced and successfully marketed in more recent years.
Now, you’d think that with the dramatically increased means and availability, at very low cost, for women to “control” their reproductive schedules and so on, we’d see a correspondingly dramatic decrease in unwanted pregnancy, illegitimate births, and abortions.
Not so. In fact, the opposite has happened. The complete opposite. Unwanted pregnancies, out-of-wedlock births, and abortion rates have skyrocketed — not dropped off. Many people think they know why, and I am one of them.
There are several related theories on it, but most compelling, to me, is the argument put forth by George A. Akerlof and Janet L. Yellin of The Brookings Institute. Their analysis basically confirms what I’ve always believed, and what I’m sure most readers intuitively understand: The sexual revolution precipitated by “The Pill” and by the following legalization of abortion led to the virtual extinction of traditional “shotgun marriages,” because the general lowering of inhibitions about sexual relations between men and women eventually resulted in increased pressure on women in general to have sex without the accompanying commitment of marriage.
Of course, that pressure winds up having results, over time. Human beings are, after all, human beings.

The birth control pill is the root cause of the downward slide in morality and the general well being of America. It has been one of the main causes of the enormous expansion of the welfare state and the destruction of the traditional family - especially among blacks.
It fostered a culture where promiscuous recreational sex is the norm. That led to the demand for abortion which, so far, has taken the lives of 60 million babies.has
Since the introduction of the birth control pill the denmmocrat party has gradually become more and more obsessed with sex and sexual gratification. They have now reached the point where almost their entire domestic agenda (and a lot of their foreign agenda) is fixated on sex in one way or another.
They promote anything that has to do with expanding promiscuous recreational sexusl relations, and work to destroy anything they see as restricting or limiting it (like the Christianity and the Boy Scouts).
Republicans have been floundering for 50 years for a way to counrteract the resultant destruction of tradional culture and still have not developed an effective strategy.
The simple truth is women to not need better access to birth control; birth control needs access to better women (and men).
Well-said, and unfortunately, true. Being that we cannot really put the genie back in the bottle, one wonders what can be done.

Just above the graphs, the text states that although Japan supplies most of the birth control pills to the United States, the Japanese themselves have legalized abortions but have NOT legalized birth control pills! I was surprised to read that, and I’m not even sure I believe it.
Bingo.
It is indeed quite a paradox. There is so much birth control available and yet there are unwanted pregnancies and abortions. The root of the problem IMO is simple laziness and sloppiness
Okay, apparently that post was prior to Japan legalizing them in 1999...
That could be one significant reason (of several) why the Japanese culture has remained relatively intact and not fallen into the Political Correctness Death Spiral.
Compare two island nations: Japan and Ireland.
Both started out with relatively homogenous ethnic/racial populations. But Ireland has followed the Western model of liberalism, indiscriminate immigration and a loss of respect for their own culture and history while Japan has avoided, or limited these kinds of changes.
Today Ireland has all of the problems faced by most Western nations - destruction of the family, turning away from tradition, disruptive muslim immigrant communities, mongrelaztion of the population - while Japan has relatively little of it.
Those are some ugly numbers and you will never hear them talked about honestly, in public, in the media or in congress.
Nobody wants to know the truth.
Japan is dying from a population implosion. The only reason they haven’t succombed to most of the plagues mentioned is their extreme xenophobia. The American expectation of each generation having a better lifestyle is non-exisitent in Japan.
The lack of growth, combined with a culture of corporate/financial/government colusion has destroyed their economy and the culture. Japan is the best harbinger of where we as a nation are heading.
