Hey, Tea Party: How Does It Feel to Be Profiled?

Farhad Manjoo thinks the IRS scandal should teach the right something

Imagine you're an overworked IRS employee, charged with finding, in your massive stack of 501(c)(4) applications, the groups most likely to make electioneering their main focus. Wouldn't it make a little sense to focus on self-proclaimed Tea Party groups? Sure it would. And there's a word for that shortcut, Farhad Manjoo at Slate observes: profiling. By making decisions based on surface details like a group's name, "the IRS was acting like the TSA agent who pulls aside the guy in the turban."

Which is ironic, because the right has long advocated racial profiling, and they've found the moral argument against it "pretty hilarious." But Manjoo thinks the IRS scandal illustrates why profiling is wrong: it's unfair, and ineffective. Many of the Tea Party groups profiled turned out to be aboveboard, and some groups that weren't investigated proved not to be. "This is the Richard Reid scenario: Sometimes, a white guy tries to blow up a plane." Click for the full column.

Amongst the demographic in question, this hatred and desire for revenge is generationally engrained,
and usually perpetuated by those seeking to maintain their own power
through the victimhood of the underclass.

Liberals traditionally are defensive about profiling becuse they’re the people doing it. And they profiled conservatives based on lies they made up about them.

It explains the popularity of Zimmerman’s case by the MSM.

It explains why the IRS is scared sh*tless.

It explains why the press is uncomfortable with this issue.

I think it was Ann Coulter who said last night, these IRS workers were so overworked, so they ask the tea party groups 90 questions at a time and then they have to process the documents to support those 90 answers...it doesn’t jive...

Your graphic's hit on the truth Servant. The Obama Administration's afraid the truth will out - it's why the IRS is pleading the fifth.

Homeland Security, the IRS and the Obama Administration are running scared - they're pulling strings trying to fine some violent Tea Party members who 'fit the picture'. Their illegal activities and special fundings were based on the lie that Tea Party people were violent terrorists.

Whoever finds a violent Tea Party member - and reports on it - gets one of the myriad prizes offered by liberals to keep the press in line... Pulitzer anyone?

"FIND A CONSERVATIVE TERRORIST. NOW. HELP! OUR LIES ABOUT CONSERVATIVES ARE FALLING APART...signed, your friends at the IRS and Homeland Security...." The New York Times and NBC will sell their souls to get this story AND there are groups ready to fake it for them... buy popcorn.

Last time I checked, Tea Party didn’t exist when radical Islamists were flying airplanes into buildings.

It would be hilarious, if it wasn’t such a disturbing peek into the liberal mindset. They don’t have the intellectual rigor to analyze an issue with balling it up to the point of absurdity.

I suggest we do the following: Look at the ideological/political identification of ALL criminals of ALL types over the last 30 years, and profile on the basis of THAT.

Ann is assuming they actually process the answers to those 90 questions.

Those documents probably went into the round filing cabinet on the floor.

Or, alternatively, the answers to the intrusive questions went to the giant database in Utah.

Right. She’s also saying what BS it is to claim that singling out tea party groups was a way to lighten their workload.

IF any ANY other group had been profiled the suckups in the press would have reported on it. This guy’s a fool.. no one’s been profiled EXCEPT conservative. NO ONE.

Manjoo, your ignorance is astounding. The Tea Party has been “profiled” since its inception and your opinion of the Tea Party expresses that profiling. Among other things, the Tea Party works for lower taxes — therefore it is racist; the Tea Party believes in smaller government — therefore it is racist and potential terrorist group and the Tea Party believes in individual rights so obviously it is racist and a terrorist group. So Manjoo, you are more guilty of profiling than the Tea Party ever was.

"the IRS was acting like the TSA agent who pulls aside the guy in the turban."

Islamists are not the turban wearers; they are the towel heads.
