IAF: We're Set for Surprise Syria War Scenario

IAF Commander, Major General Amir Eshel, spoke Wednesday about the IAF's preparedness for a surprise war scenario with Syria.

"A surprise war can come about through many scenarios at present," he said at a conference of the Fisher Institute for National Security in Herzliya. Isolated incidents can escalate very quickly, he explained, and added that "we are committed to being ready in a matter of hours and to operate up to the end of the spectrum."

In my opinion, the quote in the article "we will have to give 100 percent" means that the Israelis are prepared to use their nuclear arsenal.

With the death of Assad, the Syrian "rebels" would not have any constraints imposed on them. They would use missiles to attack central Israel (Tel Aviv), where most of the Israeli population lives. Many missiles would be launched from a number of different locations. It would not be possible to stop all of them. There would not be time to stop them via IAF sorties. The IAF must stop them immediately, otherwise thousands of Israelis would die. (They may die in large numbers no matter how the IAF responds.)

The IAF will have to respond in such a way that it shuts down the enemy within minutes, not hours or days.

That leaves only the nuclear option.

I would be more concerned with the Islaminsts doing something and making it seem like it is Assad. Then Israel does the muzzies jobs for them.
