BREAKING: KMOV FIRES LARRY CONNORS

In April 2012 St. Louis News 4’s Larry Conners grilled President Barack Obama on his extravagant vacation schedule and on bullying the Supreme Court.

“The economy is a big concern for folks, I mean the unemployment, trying to make ends meet, gas prices, food prices going up. Some of our viewers are complaining that they get frustrated and angered when they see the first family jetting around different vacations and so forth…”

It was one of the few hard-hitting interviews the president sat through last year.

Last week Larry Connors revealed that after his interview with Barack Obama the IRS targeted him. He posted this on his Facebook page.

After this Larry Connors was taken off the air until further notice.....

I’d like to know how Obama answered that one... is there a report or a video link somewhere?

That’s in reference to them calling it AmeriKKKa, people such as Bill Ayers, Father Pfleger, Mr. Obama, Louis Farrakhahn, etc., etc.

FWIW, I sent the station an email expressing my displeasure with their decision. No curse words and no threats, but direct and displeased. Also explained why we call them the dinosaur media.

That’s terrible!

That said, I hope it keeps happening to a LOT of “reporters”;

Perhaps ONE will finally seek the truth out about Benghazi Hussein Obama and tell the world.

KMOV statement

We regret to announce that Larry Conners is no longer a KMOV news reporter. Larry was a valued member of KMOV for a long time, and we will miss him.

For KMOV, there is no higher cause than unbiased, objective news reporting. It is what our viewers expect and it is what we work very hard to deliver. We can accept no less. Larry is certainly entitled to his opinion, but taking a personal political position on one of the Station’s Facebook pages creates an appearance of bias that is inconsistent with important journalistic standards. Larry’s departure has nothing to do with the particular position he took, but it does have to do with our belief that his actions made it impossible for him to report for KMOV on certain political matters going forward without at least an appearance of bias. Bringing you accurate and unbiased reporting is the reason we exist.

If you live in the St. Louis area, boycott the station. This is cowardice on the station’s part.

Here’s an interesting connection, or maybe its just a coincidence. Mr. Connors was formerly the lead anchor for KMOV, the CBS affiliate in St. Louis. KMOV is owned by Belo Corporation, a huge media conglomerate with TV stations and newspapers in many cities, including Dallas, New Orleans, Seattle and other cites.

Belo was once the gold standard in local TV news, and they have a few veterans (like Connors) who weren’t afraid to ask tough questions. In fact, the only other tough interview that Barry’s had in recent years came from a journalist representing another Belo station, Brad Watson of WFAA in Dallas. Watson interviewed Hobama in 2011 and gained instant fame for refusing to accept the Dear Leader’s talking points. At the end, an obviously flustered Obama said “next time, why don’t you let me finish my answers.”

Flash forward to present day. Brad Watson left WFAA last month after 34 years on the job. He announced his retirement back in March, informing friends/viewers that he was moving to a new job as the spokesman for the largest power company in Texas. Watson’s announcement stunned a lot of people in Dallas media circles; he had been on the job at WFAA since 1979, and was acclaimed as one of the finest broadcast journalists in the country, network or local. But with barely a month’s notice, he decided to pack it in, and move to a corporate pr job.

That makes me wonder: with such a sudden transition, was Brad Watson told he wouldn’t be offered a new contract when his deal was up? Or was Belo threatening to cut his salary, citing the company’s financial problems and increased competition in the marketplace. And why would you get rid of a guy who is one of the best reporters and anchors in the market?

Now, Larry Connors, an icon in St. Louis (and someone who’s made millions for Belo) gets the axe. Their only common factor seems to be the fact that both were tough on Barry Zero during their interviews with him. Is the White House (through their friends at the FCC) putting pressure on Belo about its TV licenses? With the newspaper business in the toilet, Belo desperately needs its TV properties to keep the company afloat.

I can easily envision Belo managers getting rid of Brad Watson and Larry Conners in hopes of keeping their station holdings.

Somewhere, the late Marty Haag, the legendary WFAA news director who hired Watson (and set the bar for Belo news operations around the country) must be spinning in his grave.

Ridiculous.

Many “journalists” have well known leftist political viewpoints and we all know KMOV wouldn’t fire them

This could really be a good thing for St. Louis talk radio, and for Larry, too. He will be free to speak his mind.

Belo also used to be the conservative voice in Dallas, back when there were 2 newspapers. Their “Dallas Morning News” was the alternative to the liberal “Dallas Times Herald.” When the Herald ceased publication, the News became more liberal. I have no idea if Belo even owns the News anymore, as I quit reading it about 20 years ago when it evolved into propaganda and became worthless as a news source.

FWIW, the Dallas Morning News has a pay-to-view website. Who in his or her right mind would pay to read Steve Blow (a sleazy, devious “everyman” columnist for those who don't reside in the Dallas area) much less sports, local news, and business coverage you can get for free elsewhere?

Belo still owns the Dallas Morning News and some smaller papers around the country. The newspapers were such a drag on the company that they were spun off into a separate entity a few years ago. But Belo can’t totally insulate itself from the newspaper losses, and that’s why the broadcast properties are so important, since they still make money.

During Watergate, if you’ll recall, the Nixon Administration tried to go after the Washington Post by threatening renewal of TV station licenses belonging to the Post-Newsweek group. But Nixon never had the FCC—and the rest of the federal bureaucracy—in his corner.

Mark my words: the next Belo reporter who gets a one-on-one with Obama will take a much more benign approach with their questions.

And thus the downfall of our country. In the olden days, the media would have told the President - or anyone else for that matter - to go pound sand if they had tried intimidation tactics. I remember when their motto was “the public’s right to know” and they were adamant about getting the story out, no matter what. Quite frankly, I’m still flabbergasted that the media is so impotent - and doesn’t even realize it! They think they are so powerful, but it’s only on topics that the administration approves. That is no power at all - it’s just propaganda. One day they will wake up and realize that the only thing they are are useful idiots.

That, too. This administration sicced the IRS on Tea Party groups based on the **potential** they had to offer an alternative view. How much more would they/could they do to some entity which actually had offered an alternative viewpoint or was in the process of exposing them?

Intimidation works only when the intimidatee lets it.
