WASHINGTON (AP) -- At the center of a political storm, an Internal Revenue Service supervisor whose agents targeted conservative groups swore Wednesday she did nothing wrong, broke no laws and never lied to Congress. Then she refused to answer lawmakers' further questions, citing her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself.

Unless she has in fact broken a law, she has no right to invoke the 5th Amendment. It is logically impossible to incriminate oneself with respect to actions that were not crimes.

I’ve heard from several sources that, by making the statement, she had already begun testifying and it was too late to take the Fifth. Any legal minds out there who can say whether that’s true?

I’m not a legal eagle, but I spotted several “rental lawyer experts” state that she screwed up by trying to proclaim her innocence and then trying to take the fifth. They are calling her back and if she doesn’t answer the questions charge her with contempt.

Don't forget, after making her statement she invoked the 5th, then invoked it again, THEN she answered a question from Issa, then she left.

I read a legal expert on this today who says in this situation she can answer all the questions she wants and still stop answering whenever she wants.

This isn’t a trial, and she is not charged with a crime.

The right was brought to this country by ‘Puritans’ understandably unhappy with having been subjected to torture and forced confessions.
Strange as it may seem, it was contained within the Magna Carta, and was pretty much ignored, particularly by the Tudors.
I adhere to and support all ten of the original Bill of Rights. Without it, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn this bunch had been racking Christians.

I have been thinking about that issue as well. They can, and should, target certain groups.

Those groups would be ones who HISTORICALLY and OBVIOUSLY are trying to scam the government. Like Obama's UNCLE.

However, since they couldn't justify whom they WERE targeting, they had to lie about doing it.
