IRS officials aren’t cooperating in probes at top or bottom

WASHINGTON — Internal Revenue Service officials are not fully cooperating with efforts to learn who is responsible for targeting conservative groups, lawmakers learned Wednesday during the third and most tense, dramatic hearing on the scandal.

First, the director of the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt organizations at the heart of the scandal invoked her constitutional Fifth Amendment right and refused to answer questions during an appearance before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Then, a Treasury Department inspector general told the committee that IRS employees in the Cincinnati office that handled applications for tax-exempt designations were not being fully cooperative in the investigation. He said the IRS employees have stymied efforts to learn who developed the controversial questions asked of conservative groups.

The inability to find out more about who authorized the special scrutiny of conservative groups frustrated lawmakers striving to find out more even as the IRS launches its own 30-day inquiry and the Justice Department is starting a criminal investigation. At the same time Wednesday, the White House press secretary acknowledged that there have been “legitimate” criticisms about the way he has explained what the administration knew about the scandal.

Why should they help ... Congress?

They work for al Qeda and Hezbollah through the Imam Obama.

Way past time to repeal the 16th amendment, and abolish the IRS.

Ditto that

The IRS gets upset when the Fair Tax is discussed. You’re taking the food right out of their babies mouths, donchaknow.
I don’t know how to enlighten those working for government that there aren’t enough of US to keep them in the lifestyle they’ve become accustomed.

I do not think the other half would feel the same, if the situation was reversed.

If the situation was reversed, the other half would likely be outraged at abuse of power and tyranny.

Nonetheless, I do not see what is happening as repairable.

And, even if it did, removing him would just put Plugs in charge of Supreme Court nominations.

As stupid as he is, I can see it now:

Reid: Why in the hell did you nominate Mark Levin for the Court?!?

Plugs: To get him off the air. Now the people won't have to listen to him all the time. Pretty smart huh?

Priceless!

We should just assume Obama was behind it. If no one wants to talk, than the assumption stands.

Exactly. Boehner is already fumbling this away. He needs to send a rocket to the White Hut explaining that the fitness of the Obama IRS is currently being reviewed.

Anything less than full transparency NOW will cause a review by Congress of all statutory responsibilities of the IRS. Meaning, removal of the IRS from Obamacare is now on the table.

Let’s see how Team Kenya wants to play that in an election year.

I see no evidence that those people who voted for Obama are outraged in any way at all.

It would be nice if I did, but I don’t.

What I’ve seen is that they don’t know, they don’t care and some outright support it.

"yes they could. I believe the majority of Americans would cheer if the IRS was not funded. Which is why it will not happen."

Can Obama or Congress shut down IRS completely?

Everyone would love that and more than most will thank the Democrats by electing D's in 2014.

Who doesn't hate the IRS?

Played right, could the Democrats win this? Would abolishing IRS be a feather in Obama's legacy....

Chris. The right is outraged at Obama and his IRS. If these scandals came to light with Bush in office then the left would be outraged.

I don’t believe that is true. President Bush and his administration were seriously criticized here when they did anything conservatives didn’t agree with. His ratings went much lower than dims could take them. Conservatives and Republicans do not walk lock-step like liberals/Democrats do. That is why it is harder to find a candidate for the Republican ticket that can get enough support/votes to be elected.

Have you noticed the difference when Democrats are in trouble compared to Republicans? Democrats hold tight and never give up their office until absolutely forced to. If wrongdoing comes to light about a Republican they are usually forced to resign before most know what is happening. Republicans/conservatives don’t stand behind their man or woman nearly as hard core as the left does. Not even close.

Ah alright, I misunderstood, what you were saying, my apologies to you.

No doubt the left would be the very definition of fury were this Bush.

When you lose McClatchy... I’m shocked at the first sentences. Kind of amazing it is not buried at the bottom.

I would like to be as optimistic but I have not seen enough evidence to be so. Though our nations “Americans” continue to fight we are quickly becoming the minority with all the illegals and immigrants now swelling...and our very government working now on pathways to keeping them here.

I believe this provision, protection and open door to foreigners coming here in mass is a means to ultimately getting our nation to “agree” to the Global agenda......enough ‘numbers’, here who are on board for World Wide Governance the probability is strong the US will also be on board in time. We have too many Politicians willing and on board with the Global Agenda.....far too many.

My understanding of Congress is all funding can begin only in the House. The House decides which departments receive taxpayer money. The House could stop any department from receiving funds simply by not allowing funding to occur. It would only require removal from the budget of funds for a program or department.
