DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say one person was killed when gunfire erupted outside of a gas station on Detroit’s west side.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Thursday at a Citgo gas station near Linwood and Davison.
A man was filling his tires with air when someone approached and tried to rob him at gunpoint, according to reports. The man pulled out a gun to defend himself and a shootout occurred. Both ended up firing at each other, with the victim chasing the suspect away from the gas station.
Police say the suspect’s body was found in an alleyway across the street from the gas station. The victim also suffered a gunshot wound, but is expected to be OK. An investigation is ongoing.

Yep..... I think most bad guys with a gun do not expect the victim to be shooting back at them.... An armed citizen has the element of surprise most of the time.

Going to a gas station in Detroit at 2:00 AM has got to be one of the riskiest moves a person can make. I’m glad he survived.
The perp was found deflated in an alley.

Linwood and Davison may be the worst neighboorhood in Detroit.
Why do they chase em just keep firing!
Fifty years ago, I lived less than a block south of Davison. Schoolcraft was one block north of Davison. Decent ‘hood back in the day.
Years ago when I was in Detroit people said:
Q. Do you know what the worst part of Detroit is called?
A. Detroit.
An air hose can’t do much against a robber....approach me while filling the tank and I WILL give you a hosing you’ll never forget.
But if you shoot in some parts of Detroit aren’t the odds good that it’ll be a crook you shoot?

The only really nice thing about the bad guys arming themselves is that NEVER seem to properly train themselves and keep themselves in good form by REGULAR, and realistic, close combat handgun training and practice.
So the idiots don’t react properly when the time comes to engage in a gunfight-—and don’t fare very well when they are faced with a firefight against a trained legal handgun owner.
