The same little Dick Turban who wants the fairness doctrine reinstated. Didn't he at one time remark that he SUPPOSES Rush Limbaugh has a right to freely express himself?

strangely enough, i’m pretty sure such a committee has absolutely zer0 to do with the rights of citizens... as no members of the committee endowed us with our rights in the first place.

It's obvious that Durbin doesn't have a clue what the first amendment says.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

For his benefit, I've posted it above. If one of the DOJ watchers on FR would send it to him, I'd appreciate it. I've emboldened one relevant section

Are dumbass senators entitled to Constitutional protection?

I say make all public figures subject to the same slander and liable laws the rest of us are. We are a nation where about the only industry left is lawyering, so I say bring it on - sue all these idiots into oblivion. We don't seem to know how to get rid of the pests at the ballot box in a land of LIV.

Only properly licensed "reporters" would be protected by the Constitution.

Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union (TASS; full title, Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union of the Council of Ministers of the USSR), the central news organ of the USSR. TASS collects official and other national news, international news, and photographic reports, which it disseminates to organs of the Soviet press, television and radio stations, other organizations in the Soviet Union, and subscribing organizations abroad.

IS this the same little Dickie Turban that achieved such fame for stating the following while his enemy GOP President Bush 43 was in office?

" “If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners”

- Illinois Senator Dick Durbin

I couldn’t believe that he told Chris Wallace that the reason he targeted Carl Rove was because Carl was bragging about how much money he was raising—really, is that a reason to sic the IRS on a private citizen because you don’t like what they are saying. Chris Wallace just sat there like a bump on a log and let him get away with that insane reasoning. Made me furious. Did anyone see that?

Durbin and his ilk hate it when bloggers and reporters report all the heinous stuff that they are doing. They don’t like to get caught. Such a great platforms for Republicans to use from now on. The dems have always painted us as mean and uncaring, it’s time to get back at them hard—if they will.

Dumbass Senators are entitled to way more than Constitutional protection.

They are immune from most laws.

Even smoking is still allowed in congress I am told.

They have voted to be immune from Obama care, et al.

My Senator’s license plate reads D 1. Though I’ve been told that no preferential treatment and just a lottery is how plates are determined. BS.

Her kids go to the Elgin Academy, which runs about 25 grand a year. Yes, pro-bono, but she is a union shill for the public schools. Which is odd, because it is a non-union school, with private teachers....

Her kids will get free college as well, as a senator can designate a number of people to get that free college. You bet, as with all Illinois Senators and Reps, that she’ll pick her 2 kids.

In addition, all of her west point appointments have been sons and daughters of political workers. How convenient... Oh, it’s just coincidence. And these asshats claim that politics will play no part in healthcare? Gimme a break

They ARE above the constitution.

We are BELOW it.

You can’t defame or libel [with immunity from litigation] ...

Other than that - Dick can blow it out his ass ...

That’s the headline. You’ve missed Durbin’s mentality. He supports the “media shield law”, not the Constitution.

That’s the Cook County mentality completely. People’s rights are those granted by government. There are no natural rights, only positive rights. Isn’t that communism?

That’s how Cook County and Ill-annoy politicians think. That’s why Obama was such a natural fit there.

DICK: What is a journalist today in 2013? We know it’s someone that works for Fox or AP, but does it include a blogger?

Yes.

Does it include someone who is tweeting?

Yes.

Are these people journalists and entitled to constitutional protection?

Yes.

Furthermore, people doodling on a pad are journalists. People speaking by a water cooler are journalists. People texting by telephone are journalists.

When it comes to the First Amendement, EVERY CITIZEN is a journalist.

We need to ask 21st century questions about a provision that was written over 200 years ago.

No, we don't. The Founders did just fine.

AS I PREDICTED, the Socialists and Communists are coming for the First Amendment.

The Citizens United case allows major contributors to dwarf individuals in the political process. No organization should be influencing elections. That should left completely to individuals with no anonymity.

You said this:

The Supreme Court has already ruled that foreign corporations have more right to political speech than American citizens.

Guess not.

Now it is "major contributors". Is that wealthy individuals? Corporations or groups like NRA comprised of a collection of individuals? Why shouldn't they be able to support candidates who share their interests?

Those individuals should be able just like any other individual. Where do you draw the line on foreign interests influencing the elections? If a corporation is fully owned by non citizens? Why should any organization that isn’t fully owned by American citizens have a say in our politics? Politics should be reserved to citizens and only individuals can be a citizen. Do you really want the Chinese buying our candidates?
