The Kansas Food Bank gave out record numbers of Friday food packages to schoolchildren in Wichita and throughout the state this year as part of its Food 4 Kids program. The highest number of backpacks of food handed out to needy school children was 7,158 during a week in February, said Larry Gunkel, a Food Bank official running the program. (Snip) The program ensures that students identified by school staff as chronically hungry can get a backpack of food on Fridays for the weekend. Teachers and school social workers have told the Food Bank

I heard many similar divorce stories before. I knew one guy who got a divorce from an arsonist, convicted multiple times, and he still didn’t get custody of the children. The mother of his children also had a boyfriend convicted of child molestation charges. Hopefully, your ex isn’t as bad as this ex-wife.

Don’t forget “government cheese” or commodity foods, food banks, soup kitchens, welfare monies, etc., etc...

You’re right. Our public schools — courtesy of federal dollars — has a summer lunch program. Anyone — absolutely anyone — under 18 can show up and eat free. Over 18 can eat for $2.50. They shout it from the rooftops and encourage one and all to come because... the number of free meals they give away this year determines how many federal dollars they’ll get next year. And ‘round and ‘round it goes...

In Kansas? Isn’t that a Republican mecca? I can’t believe that the governor and state house and senate have their state in this condition. I don’t think red states should be having these issues especially a state that has been red for decades. Get rid of the leadership in Kansas and replace with other conservatives.

I wish they had some pictures cause my bet is that some of these kids are the ones Moochelle is targeting with her “Let’s Move, you fat kids” program.

The problem is this..

We have created a sub-culture of people who do not believe that hard work is worth the reward of being paid and the satisfaction that comes from being self reliant.

And when benefits to this group are cut, it is the kids who suffer as big mama is going to make sure her needs are being met first. KIds aren’t gifts from God but a way of getting more benefits.

I really do believe the only hope for this country is to retrain this subculture to embrace the ideals of work=pay=freedom. Just how can we do that when we have several generations raised at the government trough?

This is not an issue of a poor economy or conservative/liberal area. It is quite simply very poor parenting. I live in a small town in the Midwest. The schools send home about 40 backpack supplements each weekend. This is probably out of 600 middle school and elementary school students.

When a child comes to school hungry, his parent should be called to the school to find out why. Social services should not stop until they investigate the situation.

More charity should not be doled out until it could be verified as necessary.

Sorry, lazy mothers are not an excuse for more hand outs.
