6-year old brings Quarter-sized toy gun on bus, threatened with detention and suspension

My wife screamed “sick in the head” when we saw this on the local news tonight.

We’ve previously covered the gun-shaped breakfast pastry and a pencil pointed like a gun.

Now this:

Lego-Toy-Gun

A Palmer, Massachusetts, 6-year old faced dentionand suspension, and was forced to write an apology letter for bringing a GI Joe Lego toy gun the size of a Quarter onto a school bus:

Via WHDH ABC:

A plastic LEGO-sized gun caused a disturbance on a Old Mill Pond Elementary School bus Friday morning.

Mieke Crane is the mother of the 6-year-old kindergarten student who brought the gun on the bus.

“I think they over-reacted totally. I totally do,” said Crane.

Another student on the bus saw the toy and yelled to the driver.

“She said he caused quite a disturbance on the bus and that the children were traumatized,” said Crane.

The school sent home a letter to parents of students who take the bus explaining what happened. It stressed no gun was on the bus and there was never any danger.

The letter also has photo of the toy showing it’s actual size, which is slightly larger than a quarter.

“I could see if it was you know, an air soft gun or some sort of pistol or live bullets or something. This is just a toy,” said Crane.

She is upset with how her son is being disciplined. She says he had to write an apology letter to the driver, has detention on Tuesday and could be temporarily suspended from the bus….

School officials, however, eventually decided not to discipline the 6-year old after the mother’s protests:

A kindergarten student that was supposed to get detention for bringing a Lego sized gun onto a school bus Friday morning is no longer being disciplined by the school for the incident.

Mieke Crane, the boy’s mother, says he was worrying about his detention all weekend, but is relieved it’s not happening.

“He smiled when we told him, he was very excited when we told him he didn’t have to serve the detention,” said Crane….

“She [the principal] looked at the tape, the children were not standing up hollering, nobody was ducking, no one was screaming he has a gun. The little boy raised his hand properly the first time,” said Crane.

Originally, when the school learned about the incident Friday they had the six-year-old write an apology letter to the driver. They also gave him detention that was scheduled to be served Tuesday along with a bus ticket.

A letter explaining what happened was also sent home to the parents of the students on that specific bus.

If we could save just one child from this mental abuse, shouldn’t we take that step?

caseym54 - "This is Pavlovian conditioning, where the sight of anything gun-shaped or even gun-reminiscent gets kids in trouble. The object is to instill an unreasoning fear of guns. It’s quite deliberate."

JohnC - "Thinking long term here…

Teach children to hate firearms. Reward them for telling on any classmate who pretends his hand is a gun or brings a tiny Lego sized gun to school. Convince them that firearms are evil. Condition them to wet themselves at the very thought of guns.

As they move into higher grades convince them to tell their parents that they’re scared of the guns in their homes. Have them write plays about how wrong it is to own a gun. Have them sign petitions to register all firearms. Hook them up with political organizations whose leaders are looking for the next generation of anti-gun activists.

Our children are being groomed to be the generation that repeals the Second Amendment."

Washington Examiner, 1995 -

“Eric Holder, now Obama’s attorney general, proposed using various levers of media and pop culture to attach a social stigma to guns, just as smoking has been stigmatized in recent decades.

“One thing that I think is clear with young people and with adults as well, is that we just have to be repetitive about this,” Holder told the Women’s National Democratic Club while discussing how to curb gun violence in D.C. “It’s not enough to simply have a catchy ad on a Monday and then only do it every Monday. We need to do this every day of the week and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way.”

To that end, he called for the “creative community” — “those ad agencies that create these snappy ads and make me buy things that I don’t really need” — to focus on convincing young people that “it’s not acceptable, it’s not hip to carry a gun anymore.” He emphasized that newspapers and television need to devote prime space to these ads.

Holder also called for people who have influence over youngsters, entertainers, athletes, to be involved in this program as well”

Excellent points.

This kind of thing (in combination with other serious issues in this country) could make you think it’s all over but the crying.

And yet, the High School boys play Call of Duty, Halo and a host of other first-person shooter games every time I turn my back on them.

Keep shooting, boys!

I've said it before and I'll state it again. This crap will stop once a large group of parents decide to do a public disobedience protest, get the majority of kids in one or more grades or an entire school to draw guns on paper, cut paper into the shape of guns, hold pencils like guns, point finger guns, display toy guns etc in school on the same day. What is the school going to do? Expel/suspend all of them? Have the parents force the school to call the police. What will they do, close the school because there is nobody to teach? NO, they will be forced to stop this zero tolerance stupidity.

As a kid - I remember bringing my Star Wars figures with plastic blasters to school with me to play out on the playground...by the time I was in 6th grade - my history teacher taught us about the classical battles - we even dressed up as Greek and Roman soldiers - complete with homemade weapons!

I also learned in that history class how intolerant the Nazi Regime was...and how they criminalized everything - burned books - and controlled media...uhm...something looks very familiar right now...funny thing, history - not as boring as one would think when one steps back to look at the BIG PICTURE...

That used to be a Cracker Jacks toy.

The one who should be punished is the kid who told the driver...isn’t that the equivalent to “yelling fire in a crowded theater” when there is none? But, oh yeah - it is Mass. Thank God I’ve lived in TX or OK most of my life.

We have a few pieces in our home now, but we didn’t when the kids were growing up - mostly because we couldn’t afford them at that time. All of my kids have a healthy understanding of firearms...what they’re for and what they can do. My son owns several and is on his way to getting a CCP. Both of his sisters are just as capable.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It’s not just “high school boys” playing that stuff. My husband occasionally gets on to play CoD and/or Battlefield and a few others. I can sometimes hear kids talking to each other...there are definitely some 9-10 yo’s in there, too.

Holder’s use of the word “brainwash” is quite telling. How can anyone believe events such as this in the school system are not an integral part of the overall attempt to disarm and “remake” the U.S. What other explanation could there be?

Where are the politicians?
Where is the NRA?
Where are the parents who will challenge this state-sponsored behavior?
Where are parents who will say “My child did nothing wrong. The child that should apologize to the bus driver is the child who cried “fire” in the face of a non-emergency, a non-threat.”
Where are those that will argue this is clear example of one aspect of the broader poliitical correctness used to attain the goals of Hitler and Stalin?

Meanwhile, the “letter of apology” for the fabricated offense was no doubt read in various classrooms, leading the rest of the student body to conclude something really bad had occurred. This, of course, satisfied the agenda even better than kicking the kid out of school for a period of time.

Until parents fight this stupidity from the first moment, this will not end.

Find the original objector and publicly humiliate them for their abject stupidity.

Do this at each step along the way and DO NOT COWAR!!!

Welp, it looks like we are in the last generation of this great experiment called “America.”

“She [the principal] looked at the tape...”

These are liberal Rambos who will supposedly go door-to-door collecting weapons. Stick a GI Joe plastic rifle up their nose, and they’ll go away happy.

I’m so sure those kids were “traumatized” by a tiny plastic toy gun. The kid that brought it must receive the death sentence now.../s

Talk about an idiotic liberal knee-jerk reaction. Now if it were a Muzzie kid they’d say it’s just a kid being a kid.
