Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee has notified senior Democratic Party officials that he intends to switch his party registration and join the Democratic Party, multiple sources familiar with Chafee’s decision told POLITICO.

Chafee, a former GOP senator elected as an independent in 2010, has struggled with low approval ratings and faces a difficult reelection fight in 2014.

Good riddance. He has always been a RINO.

Sorry , but I have to disagree. Regardless of party switched to or from, it just does not make a gnat's ass difference. They will continue to operate as they HAVE operated in the past. A liberal will RULE as a liberal. A conservative will GOVERN as a conservative.

Yes, I can give you that.

Too many vote for the party’s choice; only.

He’ll probably get taken down in a primary by Democrats who feel he’s not authentically liberal enough.

I don’t see Claude Raines, Captain Obvious, or Jim Nabors. I guess you folks couldn’t decide which one to post.

He’s a real wimp. When folks found out the Christmas tree was changed to Holiday tree it didn’t go over well. So he had a secret lighting ceremony..LOL When O’Reilly was beating him up over this he whined...”you’re mean on this station”

"Chafee, a former GOP senator elected as an independent in 2010, has struggled with low approval ratings and faces a difficult reelection fight in 2014."

Thus, it appears this turn is solely to obtain campaign funds and party support.

New England Republicans would be considered Democrats in any other part of the country.

That could be mostly true as what we see with these politicians today.... though, when they campaign for and to those potential and committed voters of a specific party- running on that (R) ticket in his case; something should be done about this. Calling him out as a coward and a liar seems very appropriate. Why continue to not hold any of these politicians accountable if they make their own rules. You can’t have it both ways. I don’t like it when any of them do this (on both sides-just step down) He deserves much questioning for lying to his constituents. Imo. Step down, do the right thing.

Now the Dems need to Spector him and defeat him in the Primary.

Anyone want to bet this weasel would then attempt to run for reelection as an independent?

Honestly, I thought he switched a long time ago. I came to read the article to see if was switching back to Republican.

But it doesn’t matter. The comments are more interesting.

Why am I not surprised. The GOP-E is infested with lots of backstabbing cretins like Crist and Chafee.

True. Honestly, I feel "betrayed" when my only choices on the ballot are a liberal Dem or a liberal Rep and the party faithful are screaming "you have to vote for the RINO or the Dem will get elected!!!"

I prefer to write in "Satan" as it seems like a better choice.

I also tried that to save my butt, pal. Turns out our fellow liberals just nominate the guy who's officially been a RAT for years. Sucks, doesn't it?
