You’re definitely right about Carver County, but how much of it is in the 6th District? Maybe my memory is faulty.
Minnesotans who lean Republican don’t necessarily make for conservatives elsewhere.
I beg your pardon. I misstyped. I meant see MY #8.
I’m sorry.
Thanks for the clarification :)
Hah! You made me look it up. 40% of Carver’s population is in the 6th. We’re on the west side. The cities of Chanhassen, Chaska and Victoria are not in the 6th.
I am a born and raised South Dakota conservative that spent the first half of my life there. I can certainly tell the difference between Minnesotan Republican leaners and true conservatives. Luckily, the majority of people I encounter in my daily life are the real deal. :)
Jim Graves’s parents live in St Cloud and are pro-life, Republican Catholics. Jim was also a Republican until he decided he wanted to be a congressman. So, he changed his position on abortion and became “Pro-Choice”. He is a pretty good businessman, and has a smooth and pleasing style about him. However, anyone who will change his position on abortion for political reasons, is demonstrating that he can be bought, IMHO.
When I asked him last fall, “If you win the election will you support Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House?” He dodged the question. I then told him that a vote for him was a proxy vote for Nancy Pelosi, he decided to go on to another subject.
MN CD6 is the most conservative of all the MN districts. Hopefuly we will get a very good candidate, and with all the scandals and Obamacare on the horizon, I think the GOP will retain the seat.
Yes! In Minnesota we do have conservative voters -lots of them in the rural areas.
One more thing - after reading all the other postings. The 6th CD also reaches as far north as St. Cloud. HIstorically this is an area populated by the descendants of German Catholic farmers from Bavaria and the Rheinland plus some pockets of Polish, Slovenians, and Luxembourgers. Until the past 30 years or so, there were not so many Scandinavians in central Minnesota. But even they are more conservative than those in the Twin Cities and Duluth. However, St Cloud has three universities and one Technical college - which accounts for a strong liberal/socialist base to counter the influence of the local conservatives.
Negative ads work and her opponent ran a campaign of lies by running to the middle. Typical ‘Rat M.O.
She doesn’t have the cash to counter the negative ads in ‘16. Plus the RNC memo went out that they will be running another RINO again.
I just sent Boehner’s questionnaire back unanswered telling him now that he and McCain and the establishment succeeded in getting rid of Michelle Bachmann they can all go to HELL!
Michelle’s home is in Stillwater, the hone of the Minnesota State Prison. Her opponent probably got help from the felons just like Franken did!
People who understand Minnesota know it is impossible to predict how Minnesotans will vote in any election. If you think you understand Minnesota politics don’t get it.
I’m not saying you personally, I’m talking about the outsiders opining.
They have no ideas at all, only emotions. So of course their appeals tend to be, essentially, two items: The Two Minutes Hate and Republicans Want To Bring Back Slavery. Hate and Fear.
S’okay. I didn’t take it personally.
You are correct on outsider viewpoints.
