Arizona woman held in Mexico freed from prison, family spokesman says

The Arizona mother imprisoned in Mexico on a drug-smuggling charge was released from prison late Thursday, a family spokesman tells Fox News.

Yanira Maldonado walked out of the jail late Thursday night, after court officials reviewed security footage that showed her and her husband boarding a bus in Mexico with only blankets, bottles of water and her purse in hand.

Maldonado hugged her husband Gary and was greeted by well-wishers after she left the lockup and officials closed the jail doors behind her.

Gary Maldonado said earlier Thursday he was confident the charges would be dropped after court officials reviewed video that showed the couple boarding a bus with only blankets and bottles of water in hand.

He said the video would exonerate he and his wife in the nightmare scenario that prompted outrage in the U.S. among politicians and pitted the conservative Mormon family against a judicial system that has long struggled with corruption.

"It showed exactly what I hoped it would show, what we brought on this bus," Gary Maldonado said after the court hearing Thursday. "The nightmare is not over yet, but having this evidence here, that was key to get that evidence, the witnesses, and the bus video to prove she is innocent."

Bill O'Reilly was just tonight threatening to organize a boycott of Mexico if she wasn't released by Friday. Maybe they got scared.

I’ve been boycotting the third-world pisshole known as Messico since the early 90s.

I wonder if it was that CBS film that showed she didn’t have 12 lbs of pot. She had 2 blankets and her purse—nothing that could have held 12 lbs of weed.

Wonderful neighbors we have south of the border..just vonerful...

I’ve been boycotting Mexico since 1963 when I went there for a Boy Scout Jamboree.

Now I’m boycotting the Boy Scouts.

Mexico is so corrupt, but we’re becoming as third world as they are, with the Obama regime in power. They are equally corrupt.

The Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were both First World Countries.

You don’t need to be a Third World Country to be a corrupt totalitarian regime. All you need is a corrupt bureaucracy and corrupt leaders.

We are already there.

Last time I went there was 1965. Just think of all the money they could garner from tourism if they had a thriving and safe society. Priorities are all wrong.

When I was a kid. I had an Aunt that lived in Mission Texas, we would drive down and visit her in the summer. The highlight of the trip was driving across the border for dinner and shopping. That was in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Now I wont go South of Waco.

There is simply no reason to ever cross the border going south. I was in Panama for three years, and probably had to use bribery with either the police, car inspectors, or the electrical company...at least a dozen times. I always carried two twenties folded up in my billfold, to use when necessary.

I witnessed American drivers being stopped and shaken down by Mexican police. You can’t tell their cops from US cops. Same cars, uniforms and guns. They stop you and demand $50 or they arrest you. You’d better cough up $50 or it will get really expensive.

Like George Patton did with Phenix City, Alabama in 1942, the solution would have been to use a show of American sovereign force. Some fighter-bombers casually circling the Mexican capital and some 1st Cav M1 Abrams tanks idling on the border of “the ditch” with their 120mm cannons pointed south…. Those who mess with American citizens NEED to pay the price. The Mexicans have made it their tradition to severely screw with Americans. It’s way past due for “an eye for an eye”.

I had to read all the way through the second sentence of the excerpt to see that that was the reason.

The criminals from Phenix City left and in the early 1950’s most settled in Corinth, Mississippi. I am dealing with the children and grandchildren of them. Criminal enterprise seems to run in families.

Well at least in Mexico you only get “arrested” on trumped up charges, American cops and the FBI will simply shoot you (or your dog).

“I’ve been boycotting the third-world pisshole known as Messico since the early 90s.”

Yeah, same here. One of my daughters is attending Arizona State and awhile back she asked me to overnight her passport to her so that she could go to Cabo with some friends. I said not no but he’ll no. Explained the crime/cartel situation and how innocents routinely get caught up in their shoot outs. Also, explained that should she and her friends get stopped by the police there would be no certainty how things would turn out as the police has been totally corrupted and on top of that Mexico has Napoleonic Law -had to explain the possible consequences that come from that. Long story short, daughters passport remains locked up safely in my safe, lol!

I remember hearing about a teenager, in the 1990’s, who went across the border with a friend of hers to see a concert. Her family has not seen her since. The rumor was that the police gifted a drug lord with the girls. Their car was spotted in a police impound lot but then disappeared.

Mexico is a third world failed narco state. It is corrupt from the top down and always has been. Going there for any reason is just stupid.
