Skip to comments.Canadian relief for Moore tornado victims denied at border

A Canadian shipment of relief goods bound for storm-ravaged Oklahoma has been stopped at the Canada-U.S. border in Windsor, Ont.
American officials will not allow the 20,000 kilograms of food, blankets and diapers into the country until every item on board is itemized in alphabetical order and has the country of origin of every product noted.
Dennis Sauve, the volunteer co-ordinator for Windsor Lifeline Outreach and the food bank co-ordinator at the Windsor Christian Fellowship, the two organizations that gathered the goods, said it's a "physical impossibility" to do the paperwork required in time to get the perishable food to Oklahoma before it spoils.

It appears as though Barry’s commie lib ‘RATS aren’t wanting any competition. The ‘RATS want to make sure that Americans think that BIG government is their only hope for survival.
Just offer FEMA a bribe in the amount of the kickbacks that they would have made if they had contracted the aid through their family and friends. Suggested 20% is the norm in third world countries and per the FEMA Operations Handbook.
Plus both organizations are Christian groups....
sick’ probably not union either.
“Plus both organizations are Christian groups...”
Therein lies the rub!
Tell ‘em it’s a shipment of illegal weapons authorized by Eric Holder, and that it’s headed to Mexican drug cartels. It’ll be let through.
The key thing here...is country of origin. They have this fancy list that Congress gave them...to forbid food items from X countries. There never was a waiver for that stupid list, and no one in HS is willing to overlook that law.
First of all, this grateful American says thanks, from the bottom of his heart,to our good Canadian friends.Second,to Osama Obama & Pals...you don’t even try to hide your contempt for those “red state” hicks in Oklahoma,do you? If it was Chicago the shipment would have gotten through, wouldn’t it!
yep.....let the illegal truck drivers cross our southern border without a peep many times carrying drugs or more illegals yet our friendly neighbors to the north can’t even send us supplies..
American officials of “What Organiztion?”, “What Political Party?”, and “What are their names?”
Pay Back can be a B****!
I agree with you about offering them a bribe. It’s part of the present the United States Government after all, and their corruption will surely over-ride their stupidity.
meanwhile, on the southern border, 100s of Mexicans, and others, scurry across the border in the dead of the night...
Call out the Oklahoma Guard. Escort the goods to the state.
Unfortunately, the people of Oklahoma City live in a “red” state. If a tornado had hit Boulder, Colo. or Burlington, Vt., the supplies would be sailing through.
My hometown is Windsor Ont.,salt of the earth GOOD PEOPLE!
First, thank you Canadians for your heart being in the right place.
Next, since we're fighting a war on terror regardless what Obama says, I reluctantly have to agree that Uncle Sam need to be a little paranoid about what crosses the border into the USA.
On the other hand, Canadians might try bringing relief supplies through the Mexican border next time.
Yes, they need to be careful, but I am just cynical enough to think, if these relief supplies were meant to help Muzzies, they would get through in a matter of minutes.
An inspection is one thing. Requiring an itemized, alphabetized inventory and affixing labels to each individual item is ridiculous. Especially with a shipment intended for relief.
This country gets more fugged up every day.
This bunch could screw up a two car funeral.
If it has perishible food on board it’s already done for.
Why would you even think about perishible food with out a reefer?
I will admit the US officials are being asses!
Get another trailer inventory it and get on the road.
Or just run it over to the Canadian Goodwill and be done with it!
Return to the border with the same truckload, manifest it as ‘solid landfill waste.’ A condition applies to waste products: It may not be sold for anything other than landfill material. Items in the truckload can never be sold in any form or fashion.
You can give it away, however.
If they were requiring them to check for explosives or something like that, the caution could be warranted. But to alphabetize all the stuff is just plain asinine.
Just tell the Border and Immigration guys you are all illegal Hispanics and they will let you through without any protest or inspection.
After we win this election, its our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we dont forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay. Congress wont be a problem for us this time. No election to worry about after this is over and we have two judges ready to go.
- Valerie Jarrett
While alphabetizing the stuff can be perceived as harrassment, it would work in the favor of the Canadian donors by speeding up the inspection process, especially if burden is on one inspector to very the stuff.
I notice in the article Moore, OK hasn’t been declared a disaster area. I couldn’t believe that and wonder why the gov’t is dragging their feet?? Surely the Gov. of OK declared a disaster.
They have it in a refrigerated truck per the article and it also says had the idiot in charge of this country declared Moore a disaster area the aid would get right through:
Because U.S. President Barack Obama hasn’t declared Moore, Okla., tornado a disaster area, the 52-foot trailer of goods is considered a commercial shipment rather than humanitarian aid.
Several companies gave donations. Sauve’s group secured skids of food donated from Heinz Canada, a refrigerated truck from ADT Transportation and fresh fruits and vegetables from a number of greenhouses in Leamington, Ont., southeast of Windsor.
I give the US Government full credit...for consistency - as in always brick-headed.
Absolutely proto-*ing-typical government action.
Hot Canadian story!
Bring down this evil government!
Koo~ sorry I missed that and Apologize.
One question has the Gov of OK asked for Disaster Relief?
Not a Slam just a question?
It’s plain to see they need it and two Canadian Christian groups decided to help out.
To all- please ping me to Canadian topics.
After you have stolen this election.
Food is expensive here but is more along the quality of shopping at high end Whole Foods instead of commercial grade Safeway. It's a lot more international in origin as well with imports from Europe, South America, Middle East and Asia.
I actually looked up the websites of the Canadian groups involved and thanked them for trying to help out and apologizing that our country has given them such a hard time.
Almost immediately I got a reply from one gentleman that was on site and he said they had just gotten a one time exception to pass over the border and that they were leaving as soon as they could for Moore! He sounded thrilled and I was happy to hear the news!
It’s a shame too because Canadian hothouse veggies are top rate quality.

I didn’t realize that about the quality of the produce! I’d been in Canada for work a few years ago and didn’t get a chance to stop at a grocery store as my work involved a lot of driving. I was so exhausted every night I just ate whatever was nearby and flopped into bed :-)
I was impressed though with how friendly the people I met were and how beautiful the country is - you chose a nice place to live. Hope your family in OK is all safe and unharmed with the tornados.
