Christopher Swindell: Gun safety debate is B.S.
The Charleston Gazette (WV) ^ | 5-30-2013 | Christopher Swindell

Posted on 06/02/2013 11:32:00 AM PDT by servo1969

Watching the celebration at the NRA convention over the defeat of background checks was the most nauseating experience of the day.

I am not a New York gun control liberal, either. I support a shotgun for home defense, a handgun for limited conceal/carry, and an assortment of hunting rifles to balance West Virginia's exploding deer population (as evidenced by hourly collisions with cars). So, I am hardly out of the mainstream.

But, the gun safety debate is B.S. This foaming at the mouth, Obamar is coming for the guns, Nanny Bloomberg is a bad billionaire, and most despicable of all, those survivors and victims are pawns in the liberal agenda is knuckle-dragging Cretan talk.

And no matter how many times Sen. Joe Manchin tries to explain his compromise (a decent attempt thwarted by extremists), the hard right lies and foams. The repeated lies now seem like the truth, what with the likes of Sen. Kelly Ayotte telling them.

Probably the most serious miscalculation opponents make is the guest list for the NRA speaker's podium. To let the half-wit half-term quitter Sarah Palin have a microphone is to alienate the very people Republicans need to work with on future legislation. To say nothing of the other speakers.

And how does choosing a white, rich old man with an offensive degrading speech about the war of "Northern Aggression" as NRA president forward a sense of reasonableness? History lesson: It was an awful Civil War won decisively some 150 years ago. Over slavery. The Confederacy wanted to keep African-Americans in chains and President Lincoln didn't.

Sure, there were states' rights issues, but nullification, secession, and treason were settled at Appomattox Courthouse. Sure, Reconstruction left a bad taste. But, resurrecting these same things, the way South Carolina is as we speak, is to invite a return to the whole concept of a Union.

Here it is. The NRA advocates armed rebellion against the duly elected government of the United States of America. That's treason, and it's worthy of the firing squad. The B.S. needs a serious gut check. We are not a tin pot banana republic where machine gun toting rebel groups storm the palace and depose the dictator.

We put the president in the White House. To support the new NRA president's agenda of arming the populace for confrontation with the government is bloody treason. And many invite it gladly as if the African-American president we voted for is somehow infringing on their Constitutional rights.

Normally, I am a peaceable man, but in this case, I am willing to answer the call to defend the country. From them.

To turn the song lyric they so love to quote back on them, "We'll put a boot in your ---, it's the American way."

Except it won't be a boot. It'll be an M1A Abrams tank, supported by an F22 Raptor squadron with Hellfire missiles. Try treason on for size. See how that suits. And their assault arsenal and RPGs won't do them any good.

So, to return to reality, all of us. Let's make common sense gun safety a deciding issue for 2014 and beyond. The NRA certainly has. Let's push back. We the People. The 85 percent who support more robust background checks. And when the next domestic terrorist with an assault rifle comes along, we can blame the leaders and fringe of the NRA for arming them.

I found it interesting to learn that the majority of Southern soldiers were not slave holders. They were fighting a War against Northern Aggression and perhaps also were used somewhat as pawns by the wealthy slave owners who feared that loosing their slave-property would end their livelihood and way of life. Much more to it then meets the eye or is taught in classrooms.

Marshall University, where he teaches, has a notoriously strict and unconstitutional speech code.

So they don’t just hate the second amendment. They also hate the first amendment.

Listen to what this asshole posted on his Facebook page awhile back...

"Dear FB friends, I am normally an optimistic person. But, I fear default may be the undoing of these Great United States. Think about something for me. Let's organize a march on Washington where we all as a people demand the immediate resignations of all parties involved. I mean throw the entire lot out. Make it 1 million strong. Start w/ the 80 Tea Party blatherers but don't stop there. Throw them all out. Then prosecute them for hurting me ... and hurting you. Then hang them from the nearest tree in their home state. My Congress is worthy of nothing but death. After a fair and speedy trial."

He advocates killing people who oppose his political views! He's a COMMUNIST!
His own students (who generally seem like him) have attested to that fact!

The debate over the arming of citizens is this: An armed person is a free person. The Current Regime is very much afraid of the peasants showing up at the gates armed not with pitchforks and torches, but AR-15’s with fully filled 30-round magazines and ACP-380’s with fully filled 10-round magazines.

The reason for the Second Amendment (which few other nations on earth have as part of their organizational documents) is to correct the situation when the change of administrations does NOT go smoothly, resulting in a tyrannical regime gaining access to the levers of government, and acting on the wishes and at the direction of a minority opinion.

Every able-bodied male citizen is part of the militia. Consider the situation as it exists in Switzerland. With one of the greatest of mass warfare encounters ever in history swirling about them, they remained adamantly neutral in the Second World War. It is also exceedingly difficult to attain full Swiss citizenship, if not a direct male descendent of Swiss origin.

Not that simple. Northern Aggression, if you wish to call it that, was caused by secession and attacks on US facilities.

Secession was caused, by the seceding states’ own proclamations, primarily by a desire to protect the institution of slavery. Which desire was not surprising, since slaves constituted the majority of the capital in the South. We might get a little testy ourselves at a threat to over 50% of our invested wealth. We got all upset about the recent recession, which knocked off something like 5% or 10%.

The 1860 per capita wealth in the South was $3,978; in the North it was $2,040. Most of that additional southern wealth was in slaves.

“Most southerners didn’t own slaves” is accurate, but not nearly as simple as it sounds.

In the Lower South (SC, GA, AL, MS, LA, TX, FL — those states that seceded first), about 36.7% of the white families owned slaves.

In the Middle South (VA, NC, TN, AR — those states that seceded only after Fort Sumter was fired on) the percentage is around 25.3%, and the total for the two combined regions — which is what most folks think of as the Confederacy — is 30.8%.

In the Border States (DE, MD, KY, MO — those slave states that did not secede) the percentage of slave-ownership was 15.9%, and the total throughout the slave states was almost exactly 26%.

Confederate apologists will usually cite the number of legal slave owners, who were usually the heads of households, which of course drastically understates the percentage of the population that directly benefited from slavery, especially given the much larger families back then.

http://civilwarcauses.org/stat.htm

But I quite agree that once the war started most southerners were fighting against what they saw as northern aggression.

That’s me!

I support robust background checks for candidates running for the office of the President.

Like are they or are they not natural born citizens of the United States.

They "like" him because he teaches to the test instead of imparting knowledge. He also makes it known what views will incur his wrath, so better grades are more easily acquired.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Swindell is a professor of Journalism.

If it had been up to Swindell types the story about the IRS targeting Conservatives wouldn't have been written... And the stuff about AP and Fox? Holder and goons would have been cheered on. What's a free press compared to revenge? Swindell types allow hatred to trump principle - he would have backed Holder.

Swindell's hatred of traditional American comes through loud and clear. And what is that hatred of millions of Americans based on? A song. A song I've never heard. Has he ever even spoken with a conservative? Maybe AT one, but never with one - we know his type. The guy's a hater. A bigot.

The reason traditional Americans need to own guns is because one of these days some midget with delusions of grandeur - some creep like Sindell - will be in power... and his hatred of people who don't think like he does will unleash a horror upon us.

People who don’t own guns, who don’t have the courage to defend their own families or property, should have everything taken away from them. We could round them up like the sheep they are, and force them to work in heavily guarded labor camps. People who don’t own guns shouldn’t be allowed to vote, or participate in the politics of a free society. They are unwilling to defend their freedom. People who don’t own guns are the reason we have so many police and so many taxes to pay for them. They are the reason we have big, intrusive government. They are the reason we are in debt, and the reason this nation is becoming a third world dung hole. So there. Liberals are disgusting, intellectually inferior cretins who need mandatory gun training and indoctrination into civil society. So there.

My .380 1911 style only holds 7 in the well, and 1 in battery.

Yes, but usually it’s for actually getting people killed instead just disagreeing with their political views.

Progressives/Communists have to pretend that so many lies are the truth in order to enslave the White Devil that they hate so much.

They have to pretend that bringing a 2” plastic picnic knife to school to cut an apple is the same thing as bringing a 6” switchblade to school to stab a rival gang member.

They have to pretend that a person who owned guns since the age of twelve for hunting and personal protection and never used one to harm another human being in their entire life is the same thing as a gang-banger owning guns who only uses them for drive-by shootings, robberies and carjackings or an evil, crazy person stealing guns and shooting up a school.

They have to pretend that a law-abiding citizen who purchases moderate quantities of ammo every year for target practice and hunting is the same thing as a hardened convict who only needs one box of ammo in his entire criminal career.

They have to pretend that a hundred and fifty million gun owners should be condemned for the actions of a handful of crazies who shoot up schools and shopping malls, but that Moslems should not be condemned for a handful of crazies who hijack airplanes and crash them into buildings, or strap on homicide vests and blow up innocent people.

But we’re the ones who are the “gun nuts.”

On May 30, Henry gave his maiden speech in the assembly and defended his resolutions. He expanded the scope of his criticism to include not only Parliament, but the king as well. Speaking of George III, he stated that, “Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the First his Cromwell and George the Third — .” At that point he was interrupted by cries of “Treason!” from delegates who easily recognized the reference to assassinated leaders. Henry paused briefly, then calmly finished his sentence: “...may profit by their example. If this be treason, make the most of it.”

Seems Obama has his Swindell............

Going back to a little over 40 years ago when I was in college, I think I would have been able to hold my nose about his politics and enjoy his teaching. It was always nice to have a professor predictably teach what he was going to test on and “teaching to the test” that way definitely was not a failure to “impart knowledge.” Rather, it imparted the knowledge that as to be tested on, certainly a lot fairer than conveying a cloud of BS and expecting the students to guess what was important and to be tested on.
