I was complaining to my husband to turn off Fox News Friday night because Shepherd Smith was railing at the storm chasers to talk more slowly and be more explanatory to the audience as they chased the storm. The men in the truck already had said that an "entire farmyard" had landed on them -- fence posts and all -- and had broken out all the windows of their vehicle.

I said, "Can you imagine what will happen if those storm chasers get hur, or die, tryinng to cover this for Fox?" I don't know if these were the same men who died, but it seems pretty foolish to me to have people who are in imminet danger of bodily harm to be reporting about it live, on air, while it is happening.

Where's the common sense?

I'd love to see a tornado...from a distance...also would like to see golf ball size hale....

but as far as the storm chasers, they're doing it for publicity...that equals money....

Those three there were killed didn’t work for FOX news.

Here are some other threads about them:

This here house was built in 1861 with a natural double granite storm cellar and a later concrete apple storage bin 50 feet underground in the orchard that doubles as a bomb shelter and a twister misser.

Any groundhog knows to dig a hole.

Chickens know when to come in out of the rain.

They ain`t stupid.

These guys were associated with the National Geographic and were involved in serious scientific research. This research, presumably, has led...or could lead...to improved forecasting of tornadoes which,of course, would save lives.

I don’t care if they were associated with the Catholic Church. Shepherd Smith had no business interviewing them live, in the midst of a storm, and egging them to drive faster and give a better account about what was happening.

It reminds me of his coverage of Hurricane Katrina when he stood on a damp Bourbon Street about an hour after the rain stopped and chortled that “N. O. has these great pumps that keep this area dry.” 6 hours later the water was rising and the whole area was under water with people struggling to get to high ground.

Prayers up for these guys and for their families. They were professionals doing a job.

That said, it's getting to be a big problem with thrill seekers, both locals and tourists, following the professional storm chasers (all the local TV stations, at least eight, have their own, plus probably a few others associated with certain radio stations.) around this part of the world and posting stuff on youtube.

Poseurs and thrill seekers, take heed.

I put storm chasers and mountain climbers in the same category.

" I’d love to see a tornado...from a distance...also would like to see golf ball size hale.... "

I've never seen a tornado up close, but I've seen baseball size hail.

Really you don't want to see a bad hailstorm either. Trust me.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t get some kind of APC to use for storm chasing.

They are mostly dumb, adrenaline junkies with an occasional viral YouTube video to show for their “work”.

Driving a damn custom vehicle into a middle of a tornado serves no scientific purpose. If they want to “chase” tornados to help warn people of it’s path, they can do that from a far safer distance.

Not sure if you were around FR when Katrine hit.

We had two or three mega threads going.

I recall us discussion how many Fox New's ball caps were in various parts of NO. Every night Shep would lose at least one, sometimes two.

During one segment shep was in this one section that seemed deserted.

I posted that any minute now, Shep is going to find some dog left behine and lament about them.

Not more that two minutes later, what do we see but Shep kneeling down to pet two dogs deserted by their owners.
