We here in the USA do not rely on "our leaders" to defend us, we defend ourselves. Bring it asshole.
I'd just like to add that we're so flooded with free Korans that we use them for hog bedding, and we all have machine guns.
And if we had such a leader presently, The population of Yemen would no longer exist.
The problem is death-by-a-thousand-cuts. Every time they hit us our government wildly overreacts ballooning the police state at an unaffordable long-term costs. They also win the psychological battle with the low information voters. Look at the second guessing on this website about what the police did or did not do for some event.
We are very fortunate that AQ and other Jihadists have mostly been stuck on the dream of doing something spectacular that tops 9/11. If they deployed individuals or even small groups doing simple low-technology non-complex attacks against us we would be paralyzed. I bet around July/August one Jihadist driving a cleverly disguised Toyota Prius with Greenpeace stickers could light half the west on fire during the drought with simple delay pyrotechnics.
AQ is not smart. In fact, they have wasted much of their potential trying to fight our military over there instead of hurting us where it counts. That part of the Bush doctrine turned out to be correct.
It is truly impossible to harden a free multicultural society against terrorism. There are many things we could do that would lessen the chances of our being hit, but we are far too multicultural to ever adopt the Israeli model and even that has not been foolproof. Our congress would bankrupt our nation with ineffective security if they started suicide bombing on mass transit, at malls, and at large public events.
That is a sad fact. Not sure how this will work in the long-run, but we have been extremely lucky to have a stupid opponent.
