Yah. Especially when some bozo thinks violating the Flag Code makes him a patriot.
Historically, flying the US flag upside down was a sign of distress.
The SCOTUS allows the flag to be burned as an expression of free speech. So is this.
Precisely my point. And this guy should be treated as someone who is burning it.
I’m more concerned about the flying at half-mast every time a kitten gets stuck in a tree.
That bothers me more than you can imagine. The U.S. flag in the town where I live flies at half-mast so often that half the time I never learn why. Seriously?
We had a man of the mind, a Conservative / Libertarian talk show host during the Clinton years here in MI, The Late Mark Scott who did just that and was a Marine in Korea.
It’s not a violation of the flag code. America is in distress, so it’s appropriate.
What drives me crazy is that the Volunteer Fire Dept. will have it full staff but the elementary school less than 1/8 m. away is at half. Or vice versa. I'm not kidding, I see a half-mast flag at least once every two weeks.
So, you found a “penumbra” in the Flag Code. Congrats. /s
Yeah, and bill ayers stomping on an American Flag is just swell. Hell, they would even give home a lowinski for it!
No one has seen In the Valley of Elah?
Tommie Lee Jones’s character goes into a school near the beginning of the story to let them know they have accidentally flown the flag upside down. By the end, he realizes it should be that way.
Every conservative should be doing the same.
“That bothers me more than you can imagine. The U.S. flag in the town where I live flies at half-mast so often that half the time I never learn why. Seriously?..”
I’ve noticed this too. Seems like I saw it at half last week and kept wondering who had died or what I had missed.
I empathize with the guy in this article. Since the '12 election I have refused to fly the flag because I equate that to support for the current regime and its goals.
Since burning is by law legal, he can’t be touched.
It's the only way people will understand the distinction I'm making . . . .
I hope that most of your anger that is being placed on display in this thread is being directed at the root cause, and not some side note.
I removed my flag when Obama was elected.
20 foot pole and all.
When, and if, we elect someone who doesn’t hate this country and white people , I will erect a bigger and better one.
Americans need to wake up. The man is doing more than writing a letter to the editor, or posting on Internet that “Obama must be impeached” and similar nonsense (such as the first sentence above), that many would advise him to do. Good for him.
I have a 48 star flag that my Father bought in 1941 (I believe around 12/10-15/41). He mounted it on a 1 1/2” staff he hand worked, with a draw knife, from a piece of lumber. It was first flown in our church through out WW2 and Korean War. after that I took pocession and returned it to our family. It was flown on all National Holidays until 2008 at which time I returned it to it’s case and will not fly it again. Sometime soon, I will have a select group of Veterans properly burn it. The mate to this flag was the Christian flag, which my Maternal Grandmother bought, to stand with the 48 star flag. It is still at my parents church.
I will be purchasing a Gadsden Flag soon! To mount on the staff my father made in 1941, when I was just a 6 year old boy.
GOD BLESS THE USA!
US Code:T36 Ch10.176
(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
Historically since 1942.
Same here, only mine came down in Nov '08.
Only time it goes up is for Memorial Day, and it comes down at dark.
I think I’ll go turn my flag upsidedown, too.
Thank you for posting the relevant section, I was afraid I might have to at some point. Still don’t see the “look at me, I’m making a political statement” exception.
Same here. Mine hasn’t flown for just over four years.
I’m not going to pretend everything’s OK. Good on him!
Hope his taxes are paid.
Well, that's the condition our country is in, with 0dumb0 & the socialist demoRATs. I think we should all start flying our U.S. flags upside down!
Many not happy when it is in an upright position either.
flying the flag upside down can also be a military tactic to inform incoming personnel of an infiltration
I have no problem flyng it upside down if need be, as it does no permanent damage to the flag. burning is a different story
Hey BOY. Take your first grade dropout comments back to your butt boys in the DU!
A n00b weighs in. Splendid.
The flag has been ordered to be at half staff under this administration more than any other I can remember. I am torn between keeping it at full staff all the time, or leaving it down at half staff all the time to demonstrate that I am mourning the last two elections. When the declaration was made to put it down at half staff for Sandy Hook but not for the incredible loss of Chris Kyle, my eyes were opened to the fact that the orders are coming based on his wants not the people’s.
I am with you both. This has bothered me for a long time.
I think it is extremely unhealthy for this country to lower the flag to half mast every time there is any kind of unusual incident or death.
Pearl Harbor was appropriate.
9/11 was appropriate.
The school shootings, Whitney Houston, Ted Kennedy and The Boston Marathon bombings are NOT appropriate, in my opinion.
Flying the flag at half mast puts us into a perpetual state of victimhood. I know liberals want that, but I think it is sick.
That damn first amendment...why don't we just get rid of it?
This country is under attack by communists...upside-down flag works for me. Alan Keyes used to wear a flag pin upside down on the lapel of his suit jacket when Clinton was in office.
Burning the flat in protest has been up held by the SCOTUS as free speech. I disagree w this form of expression.
Your fourth and fourteenth picture is from a used car lot called Wolf Auto here in the Denver area.
Sadly, they closed last year. Another company owns the lot now.
Weak reply from an a-hole moron. Been here since Oct 98, not that it matters.
